I've been having a lot of anxiety about school starting up this fall. Particularly how I'll be treated. This is a new school where nobody knows me and I have my name legally changed to my male name. I decider that for my PE credit I will do JROTC, but the problem is that there are male and female uniforms. Now, I know I might be over worried about this, but has anyone been in ROTC before? How are the uniforms issued? I'm worried that they'll have a roll sheet with everyone's names and gender on it and they'll give me a female one.

I would bring this concern up in private with your student advisor asap so its taken care of before it can even be a problem. Best advise I could offer, my gender marker is already changed.

If you will have your name changed I'm assuming you are going to be attending school as male, and see no reason why they would issue you a female uniform if you are a male student.

Depends on gender markers. ROTC isn't exactly friendly. Talk to someone at the school and make arrangements before you get there. If your file says female they will issue you a female uniform unless you or your parents make prior arrangements. It also depends on where you live how difficult or easy the school will be to talk to.

I'm going to assume that considering he is having his name changed and is changing schools so he can go as male that his parents will be willing to make arrangements for him to have the male uniform.  I know of at least one trans guy who was in JROTC and had the male uniform.

And issuing him a female uniform would kind of defeat the whole purpose of him going to school as male.

Yes, I would think his parents are making arrangements. But depending on his gender marker and where he lives, it may be more difficult than just showing up with a male name and getting the right uniform. I was just advising him to talk to the school and figure out changing places and such well in advance. If he's anywhere near where my family is from it's an uphill battle and he very well may be disqualified from joining.
