I think it's because there seems to be more of a sense of community and togetherness and non-competition that is just plain lacking in the MTF community. I used to go to this group and the one facilitator wanted to have hand signals with me so she could step in and stop people from interrupting me when speaking. One FTM there brought up once how the MTFs could just be plain rude and he was pretty pissed. His problem was that several MTFs would hint that FTMs weren't real men which is just ignorant.
Maybe it's just me and I don't fit in anywhere but I wondered this too why tumblr seemed teeming with FTMs, but completely lacking an MTF presence. Or maybe there is just a diary vibe to tumblr that FTMs, having been socialized as a girls, feel okay writing in that style, whereas MTFs, socialized as boys, just don't journal. I write in my own journal, so I don't tumble (is that the right verb?). Also, it seems younger and I'm 30-(2 ugh), so there's that. The average age of an MTF is something like 45. So even though I feel super old and decrepit, I still started transtion significantly younger than the vast majority of MTFs. Moreover, I went to J-school, which is 75 percent writing based, and it basically felt like I was going to a girl's school.
