in 3 days i have my HRT appointment and i'm nervous as heck. whats running through my mind is what if i say something wrong, what if the doctor just sends me away without listening, a lot of what ifs. i know my body wont absorb the pill so i'll need to go on injections but what if the doctor wont give me a blocker in the mean time. its distressing to the point i'm literally crying right now.

Hey sweetie, breathe

If you tell the doctor the truth, you won't say the wrong thing.  I get myself into trouble when I try to script interactions, or try to remember what I think or feel.

Transition is a voyage into authenticity. HRT is an important vehicle to that journey.  You'll be fine.  Tell the doctor that you are nervous, that you are afraid, he/she needs to know that you are sincere, that you understand the consequences, and that you have thought deeply about who you are.

It's ok to be worried, it is ok to cry.  What is necessary, and what will help you most, is to to be yourself.

Peace,
Julie

You really can tie yourself up in knots of worry, sweetie. Just calm down, all you need to think about is getting to the appointment.

Write down a few (and only a few things) you absolutely want to say and have it discreetly with you on the day in case you get lost or tongue tied. I would suggest you speak to the heart of your gender identity issues and speak honestly about how you feel in the moment.

Avoid going into fabricated realities and fantasies ("if only I was a girl everything would be awesome"). Acknowledge that you understand that transition is extremely difficult, that it will be challenging and that you have a few other personal issues to deal with (your mom, BPD) but with the right support you believe you can do it.

Have a realistic sense of what lies ahead, don't get distracted by side issues... etc. but most important, be calm...there's nothing wrong with being emotional, they need to understand that you have deep feelings about this personal issue but if you break down in tears every sentence you won't get far.

You won't be able to tell them everything, and that's not the point...just focus on how and why you don't feel your assigned gender is your actual gender. Be calm, be centered, breath...smile, you'll be fine. :)

thnx girls. its just its finally happening that i dont know what to do with myself. i've been in an out trying to find my footing so getting some clarity is a bit scary. it seems like only yesterday i had my first appointment shifted and frankly i'm glad it. the realization is finally hitting me  never been so nervous. i'll start the writing and breathing and maybe a cup of tea would calm me down a bit. upset though i ran out of spearmint tea lol

I hope that the appointment goes well for you! I know that I was so nervous when I had my first appointment, but everything turned out well in the end :)
