Hey. I may not be able to get top surgery for awhile due to cost and the fact that it's not covered by my province, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone who can and will perform top surgery in Canada.
I'm also wondering about how much it costs for people who don't have it covered by health care.

depends on where in canada you go. i know dr. hugh mclean in missisauga has good results and costs about 7k + hst. there is also dr.brassard in quebec, Dr. Marc DuPéré in toronto, Dr. Howard Silverman in ottawa. this is a list here:

I'm seeing a Dr who seems to have promising results (he's in Alberta). He avoids the traditional method that produces those scars along the chest...instead they end up near the edges of the nipple and maybe near the underarm.  I would be happy to share my results with you privately once I have it done, he quoted me at $5700.

Dr. Perron. He's not a top surgeon per se, he's a plastic surgeon who does mostly boob jobs and helps cis men with gyno, but he is trans friendly and has helped cis and trans men with larger chests.

McLean is great, and they're open to doing payment plans. It was exactly 7k + HST as of early last year, and I believe that almost all of his patients are self-financed. He also does the surgery for genderqueer and non male-identified people.

Get on MSP ( Vancouvers health care) and they will fund you hehehe. Though, the current wait list is 2 years. I am about 6 months in but I've been approved !!!. The guy here who dose the surgeries is named Dr. Cameron Bowman I am not sure how much he is privately plus I know BC is a ways to travel.

@Birkin That sounds really interesting. I am sure there are many guys who would love to forgo the scars. And that seems a lot more cost effective as well. Plus cheaper taxes there in Alberta. I would love to see how that goes as well if you didn't mind.

Depending on when (and if) I am able to move to another province, I will be able to get on that province's health care. That will take a few years at least though and I don't think I can stand to wait another couple years on top of that.

No I totally get what you mean. If I had the money I would pay for it my self outright to speed it up ASAP. But the list at least is a hope that I will be getting it even if I can't afford it. Good luck!

I was on the Ontario wait list for 2 years for lower surgery, but when I finally got their approval, I moved, so all that turned out to be for nothing. Back to being in limbo until I can figure out what my long-term living situation will be from here out (if there will be one at all?). Shame this isn't something I could self-finance by any foreseeable stretch of means.

I understand that he also doesn't use drains.  I know a guy who used him and is very pleased with his results and Dr. McLean's professionalism, as well.

So I'm just about coming out of my percocet induced zombiness. I'm a wimp and absolutly disfunctional when I take narcs. I had surgery done with Howard Silverman in Ottawa. He is a plastics surgeon. In my book that's a good thing, they generally want things to look good. FTM top surgery is not is bread and butter I'm pretty sure of that.

NO DRAINS baby. He has a suture technique that he's been successful with that it allows to forgo the drains. I got my bandages off today and they were barely soiled. Theres normal swelling and I would think it looks pretty good for 2 days post op.

I do not know if he takes insurance or what the payment arrangements are with him. I'm in the military and the money side of things is out of my hands.

I will be allowed to take the binding off to shower starting tomorrow. Right now all I have is gauze sutured to my nipples and a little pad of gauze over them to reduce friction with the binder. Nothing over the sutures.

I did take a few pictures of before. I will take some when take a shower tomorrow. More than likely I will set something up on Transbucket. Or just send them out to people who are interested in seeing Dr Silverman's work.

Pain is pretty good. I been only taking acetaminophen and ibuprofen since yesterday and haven't taken anything today, and so far so good.

I had mine with McLean last year and he was awesome.  His staff were also fantastic.  The results were really good too!
