Ex-MEP Nikki Sinclaire charged with money laundering and misconduct in public office

Nikki Sinclaire, one of the first openly transgender politicians to sit in the European Parliament, has been charged with money laundering and misconduct in public office after an inquiry into her expense claims.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced the former MEP had been charged with the offences by West Midlands Police.

A CPS spokesman said the offences were alleged to have been committed while she was a serving MEP for the West Midlands between October 2009 and July 2010

Well being transgender isn't going to make politicians somehow immune to corruption...

I feel that her political affiliation is more relevant to the story than her gender identity.

Im honestly not surprised since she was UKIP, which really is kind of a paradox since im pretty sure ukip are anti LGBT amongst anti many other things.

Still a shame she didnt set an example though, even if the party is questionable.

It's her own personal integrity and outlook on life that are in question here. She left UKIP because she found it was homophobic.....well, I never

lol, I would suggest you should do your research before joining a party....

Oh dear, I'd say that I hope this doesn't have any unfortunate consequences in terms of generalisation but bigots will use anything. Also, I'm not shocked this happened given she obviously never really had the best judgement given her chosen party and, in my personal view, her misguided views on the best future path for the UK. Of course, I'm very pro-EU based on the overarching tends in evidence I've seen so I would say that. 

It's unfortunate what she did - what's important to remember is one's gender, sexuality, race, or religion doesn't necessarily make us a moral person - everyone makes mistakes. I don't think a transgender politician doing something wrong should bring negative attention to the trans community any more than if a gay , straight, male, female, black, white, muslim  , hindu ( you get the point ) politician's negative actions bring attention to their community. Again, this is in an ideal world...
