Take Action: Business Community Stands Against ENDA

CitizenLink.Com
(Focus on the Family Actions)

"Is your organization "religious enough," or could you be forced to hire homosexual employees? If a male employee comes to work dressed as a woman, what can you do? What about a female news anchor who undergoes a "transition" to become a man?

If the Employment Non-Discrimination Act becomes law, it's likely the courts will decide all of that for you."

I must admit... my transition HAS been *terribly* disruptive for my office. I mean geez, now that I'm relaxed and happy, coworkers seem to WANT to be around me, and keep coming back to my office just to sit and chat! I can't get my work done!

I had to put up with that idiot's hate-mongering for the seven years I lived in Colorado.
They organized a demonstration against the store I worked at because we had homosexuals on staff. They organized demonstrations against our Pride celebration and used to block our entry into the park ~ battered us with protest signs as we pushed through their hate-filled throngs. They were always trying to find ways to deprive us of our civils rights. I hate that &*%$#@. He is still pissed off because when Intel came to town, with all of their money, he lost all of his influence with the city council. Still trying to stir up hate and fear, because he is the classic, closeted gay man. Just like his buddy Haggert that got caught and run outta Dodge. If life were just, something large would fall on him - permanently.

Kate, same here. Even a few of the die hard religious folks no longer have an issue with me. Why? Because I am happy. At least that is what a few have told me. My being okay with it and being way more comfortable in my skin around others has changed more than a few minds.

That is how we are going to continue to push change, to be accepted or at least tolerated among the public at large.

Exactly!

My office is *extremely* religious. Most of the people are either Catholic or Baptist. In fact, one of my kindest supporters in the office is at the "Women of Faith" conference right now. And at least one of them HAS let me know he doesn't agree with what I'm doing in a religious sense, BUT... we're still good friends as PEOPLE. We talk all the time, and there's no tension or hostility whatsoever. I mean hey, he calls me "Kate" even, so... we're good ;)

Everyone seems to have this initial horror image in theirs minds about what working with a TS will be like. Then when they finally see it's no big deal, we're just normal people, it becomes this big yaaaaaawn, lol...

Kate,
I have had the same reaction where I work. They all knew I was transexual, as I told my boss during my interview. I have not had any trouble and people now really don't even pay attention to that aspect in my life. It has been over 3 years now and I really think they have forgotten that I'm transexual, in fact I have forgotten. We have another transexual who had her surgery 8 years ago. She hired on last year. So that makes two of us and both of us know there is another girl, but she won't admit it, but thats OK. We have about 40 drivers, staff, and mechanics working in this place. I find it very rewarding and I don't think about it at all anymore, except when I come to Susans and the other boards I'm on.
