Religious Colleges Are Getting Legal Permission To Discriminate Against Trans Students

"The U.S. Department of Education has granted exemptions to three Christian universities allowing the schools to deny accommodations for transgender students. One of the schools has also been given latitude to discriminate against unwed mothers.

The exemptions for George Fox University, Simpson University and Spring Arbor University come just weeks after the Education Department's assertion in April that the gender equity law Title IX bars schools that receive federal funds from discriminating against transgender and gender-nonconforming students. All colleges receiving any federal funding, including public student loans and Pell grants, are required to follow Title IX."

Why would you even want to support a college that  have those views

Bigots of a feather flock together...

Let the colleges do what they want to. But..... if they choose to promote bigotry then they would not be in compliance with the law in regard to who they accept and their federal funding should be cut off. Bigotry should have a price tag.

It's a free country and it's their choice between promoting bigotry or accepting federal funding. They should not be able to get federal funds while promoting bigotry.

After the Hobby Lobby Deal, how many of us really didn't see all the other dominoes start falling. What about the rest of the LGBs?

But I agree with Eva, if they can discriminate, they don't need any government funds. Let the churches support them.

I thought religious freedom also meant the right to not have others apply their religious values to you.  Huh, I must've been wrong.  I mean, I realize that they're religious colleges but different people have different sets of morals even so, and they shouldn't be forced to accept someone else's interpretation of their own religion.

It makes the cynic in me a lot stronger than I want her to be, but no. In this country, "religious freedom" for the religious majority definitely means the freedom to impose your religion.

They are not promoting bigotry, they are promoting moral superiority!!       

I want to start a college that excludes certain religions.

"It's just what the college believes in. It's our right."

If they are totally private and fund themselves through their own tuition and donations from churches and do not in no way take anykind of govenrment susidies or funding or grants, then I really don't care who they will admit. I wouldn't want to be in an evironment like that anyway. I am way too evil and morally corrupt. Put if they are gonna exclude certain people then they need to be 100% on their own with donations from like minded people.

This most definately. Isn't there something about not taking God's name in vain in the Bible? I'm sorry but folks like this seem to use the name of God to promote their own vanity and moral superiority.

Honestly, what I'm offended by is the fact that they get an exemption because they're bigots.  You know, even though that completely defeats the point of the law.  "You cannot discriminate against this community!  Unless you're religious and this offends your morals.  Discriminate all you want then."
