D.C. police say a 15-year-old was stabbed in the back aboard a green line Metro train toward Branch Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Police say a transgender girl was stabbed around 4:30 p.m. She sustained non-life threatening injuries and a man is in custody in connetion with the attack.

D.C. police are investigating whether the teen being transgender is a motive for the stabbing.

The teen's friends told News4's Kristin Wright the suspect came up to the group inside the train and was insulting the victim's appearance, asking why she was wearing a wig and commenting on what she was wearing.

"Choosing to be true to one's self — despite challenges that may come with the journey — is an integral part of realizing not just one's own potential, but of realizing the true nature of our collective human spirit. This spirit is what makes us who we are, and by following that spirit as it manifests outwardly, and inwardly, you are benefiting us all." -Andrew WK

Wow! What a terrible thing to have happen  :icon_sad:

Glad they have the suspect in custody and it sounds like the victim will recover and be okay, but still, that's awful  >:(

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

I refuse to live in fear! Come hell or high water I will not back down! I will live my life!
But you have no life.
Ha. Even that won't stop me.

I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.

That's horrible. As if growing up Trans isn't difficult enough.

The one silver lining seems to be that this was handled "by the book."  The girl and her friends reported it promptly to the driver, and Metro Police and the DC police responded promptly. He was apprehended and will be charged. The girl will be ok and is not made out to be at fault for being who she is. It also sounds as if she was careful in not provoking an escalation. She kept her head and good for her.

As an outcome for a terrifying situation that should never have taken place, that's something.
