There are many features that make one perceive a face masculine or feminine , yet usually the perception is unconsciously . We can understand some ( especially us , as transgenders , focusing on what we need to change ) , yet we don't get such an accurate assessment of what is male or female . We just see an image and from instinct and acquired information a ' sentence ' is given , masculine , feminine or sometimes an mixed face .
Initially I thought that the mathematical approach , with angles and proportion that describe the ideal face or body is exaggerated and an anthropic and superficial attempt to describe the complexity of Nature . Yet I noticed that they were true and basically the
Nature really is somehow mathematically . Scientists / plastic surgeons only found the ' secret combinations ' .
For example in foreheads , yes , usually vertical is considered feminine , and also it is important the angle the forehead makes with the nose .
It varies a lot though , for example based on ethnicity / race , we are a lot different and the standards are different too . It is difficult for an unspecialized person to make a correct instinctual judgement on another person's facial features , if their races are different .
There are also purposes and explanations of why we perceive and appreciate gender specific features . For example a strong and thick male skull is required for shock resistance and the bross helps with fierce appearance . A male with a ' caveman ' appearance is considered attractive by most women , unconsciously , because he possessed the proof that he is a good exemplar of his sex/gender . It is natural selection , we feel it like an instinct and usually we are now aware why a person looks attractive to us . Same with the hair ( having a 10 inch long hair means that most likely you were healthy the last two years , as hair is really sensitive to disease , so because you were healthy you are an attractive mate ) , digit ratio , and basically all secondary characteristics .
Also , most of the time , we focus on beauty , and beauty , although related somehow with the features' gender , it is not decisive . We always hear about many of the most appreciated women models , having masculine features .
Many biologic rules have been broken by our natural selection , for example many of us want a male partner without excessive body hair , or find attractive the faces with a mix of gender specific features , instead of the classic , strict , binary ones .
To be honest I don't know if I was at least a little coherent there , It is some kind of rant because I am so disgusted of my masculine look and features , mixed with some brain fog - I really don't feel that good now .
