I've been thinking about how many people I've heard/read of in history or current times who're transgendered, and I thought we could try to put a list together here on the forum (I couldn't find anything with Google).

The big advantage I can think of in having such a list would be to defend ourselves in debate, or better yet, when coming out to someone... for example, it would be nice to be able to name individuals who are respected in society and are TG or TS.

I'll start:

-J. Edgar Hoover?
-Larry Wachowski (One of the Matrix directors)

That's all I can think of for the moment, but I'm sure I know more.

Thank you so much for the link Leigh,

That is the most complete collection of women that i've seen. It is wonderful to see all the smiling faces

I believe that any woman born in a mans body that lives to transition is a major success story. I wish we had a way to honor them all and to see all their smiling faces. :)

[deleted text I didn't like]... I'm especially impressed to see those few transgendered airline pilots, but what I really meant was names that are recognizable to the populace... people who, when you say they're transgendered, inspire responses like: "Really, they're TG?"

And thank's to 4years for the addition.

:-[  I have never read the whole list.  I do know that my personal physician in on there along with several others that I have met.

If the list is complete there will be a James Bond girl and  Playboy Bunny listed.

I didn't know about those two!... I don't think I'd seen them on that list... I wonder if I can find the names.

Edit:

I haven't found those, but re-reading the list, I was happy to find Rachael Padman Ph.D (Physicist at Cambridge), Janet Furman Bowman (founder of Pro Audio Equipment) and Stephanie Langhoff Ph.D. (Chief Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center).

Edit 2:

I found the Bond girl: Caroline Cossey, who was in the Bond film "For Your Eyes Only". Her description (http://www.angelfire.com/ak/mysketchbook/famous.html) also says she was the first openly TS covergirl of Playboy magazine, which seems to suggest to me that there have been more than one! Looking back at the list, she is actually on it, but the subtitle just says actress so it was too easy to miss.

A wiki list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transgendered_people

I was reading through the names and came across Sara Davis Buechner. I thought to myself "Why does that sound so familiar?". Well, she's a world renowned pianist that I'd actually seen in concert last year! She was amazing!

Lynn Conway's list is very impressive. Jan Morris and Deidre McCloskey are two individuals whose work I know and respect apart from their TG connection.  One person who I did not see listed is Wendy Carlos, the musician who was a pioneer in electronic music (Switched on Bach).  She did the soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick's "Clockwork Orange".

Historically one of the most famous TG persons was an English diplomat named Beaumont (I'll have to search for a link for more information).  He lived the first half of his life as a man and the second half as a woman.  This was in the days before SRS, so he would probably be classified as a crossdresser.  The Beaumont Society which is the British equivalent of Tri-Ess is named after him.

On a british show called Big Brother last year, one of the contestants was a post-op transexual named Nadia. And I think she won. :)

You're right Steven, Nadia Almada, a Portuguese national living in Great Briitain, walked off with, I think £65 grand!

But the lady who put TS on the telly in the UK was Julia Grant, who was covered in a documentary TV series going through the entire transition from George to Julia, which was the name of the programme.

Also coming to mind is Jackie McAuliffe, from another reality tv programme, here in the UK, called Paddington Green, she was briefly quite famous here in the UK, she even released a CD of classical piano tunes, but sadly, she had her '15 minutes of fame', and what happened to her, and her album, I don't know.

So those are the high-profile women who are "out" publicly - really leaves one aware of how many HUNDREDS are out there in the public eye but not "out"!

Dont forget Ed Wood :)  Proclaimed by many to be the world's worst director, he made at least one film about transgender, "Glen or Glenda."

Ed Wood would be directing a film, and sometimes get very nervous, to the point where he simply could not continue working.  He would dress as a woman, then return to the set, completely at ease, and able to continue working without a problem.

The opposite would be true for me!!!

Hello everyone... haven't been here in a while but I just remembered someone else and thought of this post:

P.S. My pic disappeared and I can't get a new one to work, does anyone know what's wrong?
