On the chat, I keep seeing people stating that nobody GG's don't seem to wear skirts anymore.

I feel that in some areas, this just isn't true. I live in Oregon, the southern part of the state, and girls constantly wear skirts here. It's really the 'in' thing. Hell, there's a group of men who wear skirts during the summer, even. During the winter, there are always women walking around in skirts, it's not exactly a rare thing.

So, any other observations from other places?

It seems to be a pretty decent mix of attire where I am (Northern Calif), skirts included in the summer. Fwiw (=

In Florida, the school aged girls wear them all the time.  Women?  I would say it's probably 50/50.  I think the problem is that a woman can't find them in her size.  The girls are wanting them so small and short and the woman just aren't comfortable with that.

Heck, my wife can't even find a regular pair of jeans.  They are all low rise.  It seems that jeans are made for super models or moms (you know the mom jeans that Saturday Night Live makes fun of).

Here in Ontario around where I live women wear mostly pants in the winter months, and it's about 50/50 fro the reaminder of the year.  For myself I wear them year round as the mood suits.

Hi Sarra,
It cold here in Michigan too, so most woman wear pants.
But I have noticed that some of the young teen girls are wearing skirts on warmer days.
Durning the rest of the year it's about 50/50 for woman. Teens seem to like shorts better, Maybe 30/70.
I perfer skirts and can't wait for spring.

Yeah, it kinda got me the other day, seeing some rather old women around in rather short skirts, and it was like... BELOW freezing. o.O

I do notice that the further north you go in the county, the fewer skirts you see. might have to do with the university at the very southern tip of the county. :p

My best friend wears a skirt for her job... She gave all of her other skirts ot me. She has trouble finding jeans that don't rip or look bad, she has no problem finding skirts though. Most people here wear long skirts, even during hte summer, and even the younger ones.

I think it probably also depends on the age you are looking at.  Plenty of girls at my school wear skirts.  Probably 1/2 almost everyday during the warm months but not so much during the winter b/c it is cold in wisconsin!  But anyway, it seems to me like skirts are still popular  :)

Here in Ontario where I live as well, during the winter months due to the cold weather  women wear mostly slacks, and I too do because of the cold.
The other day when i was in a large mall for about 3 hours, think I only saw one girl in skirts, and it was apparent that she probably worked in an office, with the outfit she was wearing.
In the summer, it is about 50 - 50.  I prefer skirts too in the waarmer weather, but then depending on the environment i am in as to wether it is a skirt or slacks

I've always been envious that girls had the choice to wear skirts or not.

I'm with you Helen,

QuoteI've always been envious that girls had the choice to wear skirts or not.

It could be a weather related phenomenon as down under it's summer and it's skirts everywhere. The length seems to be age related however, the shorter in years the shorter in material.

Hum, I tend to agree but that scares me... I still prefer floor length stuff and knee high is short to me. Um, I guess I'm an old 13 year old? cackle ... I was a 'grown up' 13 year old the first time around, why not the second too?!

I've noticed that most women wear either slacks or long skirts during the winter.  However, I still see VERY short skirts on the girls in the school where I teach.  No leg warmers.  No stockings or tights.  And, yes, sometimes heeled-sandles in the snow.

I guess that this is proof that humanity will survive the next ice age!

Here in Melbourne I'll say skirts are huge as well as dresses.

I wear them most of the time unless I'm in jeans, I have about 6 dresses but something like over 30 skirts, ones for day wear, club wear, work and just weekend wear.
Yes! I'm single
And you'll have to be pretty f'ing amazing to change that

I'd say they are maybe 10% or less in WV maybe a little more common among older women.

My feeling is that in the cities during the summer, there are a lot of skits.
If anything, I think skirst have made a come back in the last 20 years.
When I was in high school, almost no women wore them, they were almost always in jeans, now I go past the school and its like a runway show with mid tigh or shorter everywhere.

Every time I look in the mirror I see a woman in a skirt LOL :) I even wear skirts in the winter, we have mild winters so I might not in blowing snow but I just have a little longer skirt for those winterly months, I wore pants for many years and still at work (scrubs) but I swore I would wear skirts for the rest of my life if I could.

Hmmm skirts....I have a lot of skirts....lots of different styles and yes there are great ways to wear them year round...

I am 39. I do wear low rise pants, they fit me better than the *mom* pants lol. I have a little waist and wider hips so the low rise pants are great cuz I no longer have several extra inches of excess fabric around my waist.

Ok back to skirts...in the summer IF I wear a skirt it is usually just a lil flouncy (short) thing over my bathing suit. Unless of course it is work attire then I would be in a skirt suit as osten as a pants suit. I do have a jean skirt I wear sometimes too.

I actually think I wear more skirts in the winter. I have varying lengths. The same cute skirt you wear in the summer with sandals can be revamped in winter by adding a great pair of boots (or a pair of tights).

I seem to remember you wore that Jeans skirt when we had lunch.

I wear skirts most of the time, unless pants (or shorts in the summer) are more appropriate for what I am doing at the time.

Here where it's hot most of the year, many women wear them for work.  But at any kind of leisure it mostly jeams or shorts.

lol yep yep you have a good memory Sarah!

My problem with skirts in the summer is that I am soooooooo pale skinned. I cannot tan because I have had melanoma twice. I don't like the fake tanners as they are orangey. And FWIW I got cancer from tanning beds....be warned and don't think it can't happen to you. Scarey thing about melanoma is it is one of the biggest killers because people don't pay attention to their skin and melanoma is oprgna spreading.
