What if my parent cancels my insurance, I'm on their policy?

Okay,

So I have realized that my policy can get canceled if my parent finds out what I'm doing via HRT. My parent lives in another state, is there a way they can find out my medical records even though I'm paying my copays myself and for HRT? I haven't yet started, but still wondering if this was possible.

If they cancel me from their policy, what do I do?

Also, I think this is the last year I will be covered under their policy since by law I'll have to get my own. So, I'll be looking into my own insurance starting now. I just don't want any surprises if my parent finds out.

If you are over 18 in the states they have no right to view you records.

But they could find out by getting notices from the insurance company of things being paid for.

Its one of the stupid catch 22 things in the states

The policy holder will get "explanation of benefits" in the mail for each appointment.  It will say the name of the doctor, and probably the procedure code.  It shouldn't give your diagnosis.

It won't say what type of doctor, but if you are talking about mental health professional the "procedure code" will be a mental health procedure specifically (like "90843" for an individual therapy session).

If you are talking about appointments just for HRT, then it will just show some sort of "office visit" (or something like that), and the name of the physician.  That would be easier to get around than therapy.  You can just tell them you went to see a physician for a sore throat or something.

Awesome! Thanks, this makes things a little easier for me now.

Same as Brett said, my letters only showed "office visit", "diagnostic labs", "medical services", "surgery" etc. and never specified.

This is great, I'm not so worried anymore. I was fearing that it will show everything and that my policy would be cancelled before I could actually afford my own insurance.

Am I the only one that doesn't get these letters from the insurance company?  The only thing I get from them is their Newsletter Packet every month (or every other month? haha). Hell even when I had surgery I didn't get any paperwork, lol.
