New state protections from employment discrimination don't extend job benefits to the same-sex partners of gay or lesbian state workers, according to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' office.

Despite that, the governor's decision to have state government's anti-discrimination policy include coverage of sexual orientation and gender identity is still sparking concern among some lawmakers.
