So yeah, like the topic says, what exactly is a scalp advancement? I mean, obviously it's advancing the scalp forward, but is it different from a hair transplant?
It seems to me that they basically cut out a flap of skin on the forehead and then stretch your scalp forward. For a while I thought hairline feminization was done purely with hair transplants. I would definitely like to have my hairline lowered. Guess the real question is, does that mean no donor hair needs to be used, or does it at least cut down on the amount needed for the hairline? I'm not bald, but since I turned 22 I've noticed my hair has definitely thinned. It still basically looks like I have a full head of hair, but I know that I've lost at least 30% or more and my temples have receded a bit. I just had really thick hair, so even though I've lost a lot I still have a lot left.
I'm still pretty young and only noticed my hair loss about 3 1/2 years ago, and like I said, I still have a lot left; so there's a good chance HRT could halt it and possible even thicken it back up a bit. I could use Rogaine. It works big time with me. I used it like a year ago and my hair was basically at the same point it is now and it totally thickened back up to full head status, even the hairline. I did stop because my skin was looking awful while using it so I said wtf and then read that minox can cause collagen loss. I got tear trough deformity and everything from it. My skin was really weird. Thankfully, I've fully recovered after discontinuing it's use. It very well could have been that I was about 135lbs at 6'0" and just lost all the fat on my cheeks and under eyes because of it. I tend to loose weight very quickly and my skin may have just seemed loose because it didn't have time to adjust. I got paranoid and got back up to 160lbs. I don't want to scare anyone away from minox if they wanna give it a try.
I'm just curious. If my hair loss halted then I could probably get away with my hairline, but not really... it would bother me. I really wanna have my hairline lowered and have the rest thickened up with a HT. So I'd be nice if a scalp advancement would allowed for my "donor" hair to be used primarily on the crown. I feel that I'm still in pretty good shape with my hair, but I feel like if I wanna have anything other than a pixie haircut for the rest of my life then it needs to be thickened. I really wanna have long hair, at least shoulder length, and I feel like it would need to be thicker in order to look nice. I actually feel like I pull of the pixie cut well, but I still want to have longer hair.
Thanks everyone...
