So finally after many calls and searches I finally made an appointment with a therapist this Friday evening. I have great hopes for them so we'll see how it goes. They are WPATH affiliated so that has to be a good sign right. I'm so excited but also beyond nervous which I'm sure is how everyone feels. I feel as if I did when I first started seriously doing nothing but research and really coming to terms with this being something I have to do. I'm trying so hard to not let it consume me again but it's so hard. My stomach won't stop hurting lol. Well I guess just wanted to throw that out there, wish me luck!

Awesome news!  It's an exciting step, isn't it?  Relax, take a deep breath before you go in, and everything will work out just fine.  You'll enjoy it.

Thank you so much it's very exciting! I most definitely have to remember to breathe before goin in lol, my stomach is still churning. My wife I think is really what's stressing me more than anything because she won't stop asking me why I'm going and I hate lieing to her. Everyone recommends seeing the therapist first though so still gonna wait it out. Anyways I'll be back for sure to let you know how it goes!

I'm feeling you, it took me two months of disappointment and failed attempts to set up that initial appointment but just today I was finally able to get an appointment with someone. Only 2 hours away and technically in another state but i will take what i can get. She writes letters and seems to have worked states to be passionate about her work with transgender individuals so I'm hoping for the best.

This is my feelings as well, as I'm nervous that something horrible is going to go wrong, which I know is just me being inside my head, but excited at the same time because it feels as if things are beginning to move forward again after stagnating.

So back with my report  lol and all I can say is IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!! It exceeded any kind of expectation I had before going in. It was the most comfortable and relaxed I felt in the longest time even my stomach didn't hurt hehe. I was open, honest and more easily able to say everything I did for the first time in my life to another person with almost zero inhibition. I can't think of one thing that I didn't say or wanted to discuss that wasn't said for only my first session. I get a really good initial first vibe from her and hope we can continue to work together. The only thing she did say that I wasn't completely sure or on board about was her really wanting me to get on medication for my depression and anxiety first. Is this a normal thing like have any of you experienced this? But anyways really feel like I'm on the right track for now and I'm already meeting again with her same time next week. Also shortly after I came home I finally came to the point where I couldn't lie to my wife about how I was feeling anymore and finally told her everything. This is a tricky one.  If the anxiety and depression are gender-related, you may find that now you've come out to your wife, the anxiety and depression lessens significantly.  Many also find that low-dose HRT is an extremely effective way of alleviating the same symptoms.  But I'll defer to your own judgment and that of your therapist.

Thank you so much for your opinion Brenda. I really do already feel so much better now that I'm out to my wife like no matter where this is going to lead us. I'm just scared that I don't want medication to cloud how I'm really feeling you know. My therapist just called me this morning with an apoontment time to see a psychiatrist Wednesday night so I guess I'll still go and just tell them that I don't know.

A good plan.  Just explain what's been going on, why you were anxious and depressed, and see if you can let the dust settle from recent events and figure out whether you need any additional medication at a later date.  That said, if the psychiatrist thinks that medication would be useful right now (or necessary), then go with the flow.  Your overall mental health is important.

Just glad to hear it's all working out well so far.  It's one crazy ride, made all the more interesting with a supportive spouse who is happy to come along and see where the road leads.
