Hello im new here . I have recently began my transistion with a fairly reputable endocrinologist In BC Canada and when I brought up the topic of switching from pills to shots *im nearing my 6month mark* He told me that they do not prescribe HRT shots in Canada. I haven't heard or read this anywhere and it seemed kinda odd to me, has anyone ellse been told this ?

Yes sad but true, no injectable in Canada. They feel it is not safe for females to use. Hrt for women here is a lost art anymore. Its the OHHH DVT...

I am going to ask my GP when i see her end of month about pellets?

I am older so can only use the patch, was on injectable for most of 12 years hrt.

That is quite interesting. Since I couldn't find any real info on pellets (ie name/manufacturers) I was planning on asking my Dr about getting injections. I'm in Nova Scotia by the way. It's sad though that apparently our lack of 'modern' HRT treatment seems to be due to willful blindness. I'm going to ask anyway at my next appointment, I should even be able to source an injectable locally from the compounding pharmacy near me.

I live in Canada and I'm on injectables. I get them from a compounded pharmacy in Ontario but there are several in Canada that do them and ship to other provinces. I know others too from Canada that are on injectables. If I'm given permission by the moderators, I can provide some links.

Doctors do proscribe injections for HRT in Canada, you can look up the Sherbourne clinic HRT guidelines where they specifically mention injections, you could show this to your doctor since these guidelines tend to be used as reference documents throughout Canada.

ohh this is interesting, i do remember my endo mentioning something about compoundable pharmacies. Since he gave me a prescription for 6 months and i have only filled 1 month of it maybe ill give him a call and see if i can get the rest of it changed over. I work for a emergency first response based company so it is extremely hard for me to stick to a time sensitive 2 pills twice a day regimen. I have a fairly comprehensive health plan which has 90% coverage on prescriptions or 100% from costco, is there a difference in how compound pharmacies deal with insurance ?? if you dont mind me asking.

Just to be specific no injectable estrogen can be gotten in the mainstream pharmacy government approved.

It was remove for sale due to adverse health risk in CIS females.

In general injectable estrogen is no longer a approved method.

Tread lightly on any references made in the forum.

Also, just to make things clear for everyone, I do get my injectable estrogen with a prescription from my family doctor, my regimen is approved by both my doctor and a reputable endo who has years of experience treating transpatients. So this is totally legit.

That is what my Endo told me when i showed him my vial of estrogen i was using for the 12 years. He said nope not here anymore. That was in 2010

I think it is stupid but i find a lot of things for women health here in Canada is lacking. But men can get hand fulls of erection pills.

But if I live in Canada (Montreal) and if I can get them, then so can you. Can't you tell him that there are compounding pharmacies that make them or is he totally opposed to it because he deems injectable estrogen harmful? My endocrinologist certainly doesn't think so but to each their own, I guess. And besides, if it were harmful, wouldn't it be prohibited everywhere, not just Canada? I heard it was discontinued due to low profits and sales.

Not that I know anything for sure but a lot of health care in Canada is province to province so it is possible you cant get it in BC.  Just a thought on that I mean federal health care is generally about disease control not so much the pharmaceutical end.  All that being said its worth a try if that is what you want and it works for you etc. By the way from alberta so could be different yet again here I don't know as yet still working on getting on any hrt at this point.  I would also have to say Quebec is really still the other province regarding laws and policies that are not the same in the rest of the country and not a slight against Quebecers either.

Getting injectable estradiol from a compounding pharmacy should be legal anywhere in Canada. I know girls in Ontario and Alberta who get them, no problem. There is a site which lists all compounding pharmacies in Canada and you just need to call them to find out if they do them, some don't because they lack the equipment/installations.
