BBC2 commissions Britain's first transgender sitcom 'Boy Meets Girl'

Hope BBC America shows this once it comes out. The great thing about it is, the transgender character is played by a transgender woman.

This is so amazing. They actually want to show positive transgender characters. Too bad nothing like that is happening in our country.

I really think that's what will help most to improve our image - people see realistic portrayals of trans people.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Sounds like a great step forward in terms of transgender representation in the TV world. Not from the UK but I'd be willing to peek at a few episodes if it's a good show overall.

YAAAY! I wish they'd do something like this in the US. I've got so many trans friends who are out-of-work actors. I can't wait for the day when trans characters played by trans actors in shows that are not necessarily about being trans. That's when we'll have reached equality. Imagine a trans Doctor for Doctor Who? How cool would that be. Not going to happen in this life time (they haven't even had a non-white, gay, or female doctor...), but just thinking about a trans/non-binary doctor makes me smile.

So there's like three pieces of fictional entertainment that stars transgender actresses and now two of them are named Boy Meets Girl?
"Choosing to be true to one's self — despite challenges that may come with the journey — is an integral part of realizing not just one's own potential, but of realizing the true nature of our collective human spirit. This spirit is what makes us who we are, and by following that spirit as it manifests outwardly, and inwardly, you are benefiting us all." -Andrew WK

Put like that, we have a hell of a long way to go.
