Hi everyone,

I've been working this summer as an animator for a small company in london, and decided to start a part time course learning CGI and expanding my knowledge as an animator through a Masters Degree program with self written briefs. Since I work mostly in character animation, I have decided to do a personalized project that relates to my own gender identity stuff as a means of creating something I care about.

I'm going to be making a film over the next two years about my own feelings and discovering my indentity and how I explored it. I'm hoping that with two years of prep, I can make an entertaining, informative piece that I could use to both raise trans awareness and take to festivals to see if it helps me further my career as an animator.

One thing I will be asking on here now though: I have a dissertation that's standard, related to the concept of my film, and I've chosen to look at how the entertainment industry portrays trans characters in different ways. One thing I found commonplace is that gender deviant characters are usually comic relief or antagonists, even in subtle ways, and if this is a reflection of real life views. If anyone has any reading material I can use for research, that would be wholely appreciated (trans violence statistics, transphobia in the media, treatment in public, history of drag, ANYTHING I can use for this)

A google search will turn up almost all that you have asked for. I don't personally know of anything that would help you otherwise.
