My understanding is that it does not negatively effect estrogen, but interferes with androgen recepters for the most part.

Hi, welcome to the forum, Aussie Girl (from another Aussie girl)... you should head over to the Introduction thread to say hello there too. As to your question, I don't believe it does - as far as I know it is only an anti-androgen. That's what I'm on and have had had no problem with my estrogen levels.

Spiractin is the generic version of Aldactone = spironolactone.

It is a diuretic that was commonly used to reduce blood pressure.  (Made you pee more, less volume of fluid in blood vessels, lower blood pressure).

It was also used as an anti androgen (testosterone blocker) as a part of treatment in androgen related prostate cancer.  Newer drugs do the same without the side effects of limiting the effect of testosterone elsewhere in the body.

The off script use is as a testosterone blocker in cross hormone therapy.  It works by preventing the action of testosterone on Androgen receptors.  It does not affect estrogen receptors at all.
