Well, I have finally started. Originally the plan was for me to start on Androcur, however with the doctor recommending I try to lose a bit more weight (wants me to try to lose another 10 kilos), and attached to this see if I can get blood pressure a bit lower too, we have instead agreed to start me on finasteride instead. The plan there is to see whether there is any effect on my hair loss, plus the added benefits it has for a MTF, and in a months time, we will re-look at Androcur. Still forgot to ask him about why he asked me two weeks ago whether I was already on estrogen.

I also went window shopping for wigs today...tried a couple on in a wig shop on Oxford Street, found one I really like, but a little concerned at the $270 price tag...and it was one of the cheapest they had...but it looked REALLY good on me.

Tomorrow I have my first laser appointment, and hopefully within a few months, especially after I have learnt how to put on make-up, I will attempt to go out as a female...may leave it until Mardi Gras next year though.

Congrats! You're in Sydney, yeah? There are good quality cheaper wigs around...but not a lot cheaper. Thing is, if you're wearing one everyday and looking after it properly it can last you several months but they will pack it in eventually. Women can often spend $100+ on a haircut so over the course of a year you're still technically coming out in front. I gather you're not seeing Dr Hayes since he seems to use Spiro instead of Androcur or Finasteride. Spiro has the side effect of lowering blood pressure. Anyway, good luck, I hope you lose that 10 kilos quickly so you can get onto the good stuff! :)

Yep, in Sydney.

Plan was to see dr Hayes after all of the good reviews I have heard about him, but given his hours of practice and his locations, making appointments to see him was going to be a bit difficult, since I am only about five to six weeks into my new job and I said there were no issues that would prevent me from working my rostered hours.

Fortunately the doctor I am seeing just up the road from where I work is experienced in the medical management of transgender patients, and has mentioned he can do everything that an endo can do, so I am relying on him for the moment. He did give me the option of still seeing dr Hayes if I wanted to...but for now I am sticking with the doctor.

As for the wig, I have been into two places on oxford street, one the cheapest wigs they had were around$250, the other was $70, but I didn't feel comfortable in that shop because it was staffed by an older guy who was quite rude and abrupt with me. The other shop was staffed by two women who were quite pleasant and helpful for me.

Still need to find that gaff though.

(Also in Australia)
I needed a wig for a party a few months ago, went into those cheap $2 shops, hated them, didn't want to look online cause I knew that some places charge an arm & a leg.

Came across this site: http://www.thewigoutlet.com.au/

Ordered on the Thursday, got it the Friday.

A further update...just out of my first laser appointment, wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. While I didn't wear any female underwear to the appointment, I got the impression that the staff member could tell something was happening with me. After a bit of a general conversation, she cottoned on, and put me at ease saying she has several male to female clients, and the way I have chosen to go about my laser treatments is a good way

What is the quality like?

I thought it was great.
Did only wear it for the night, but speaking with them on the phone they say they're the biggest wig supplier in Australia.

The one I got was able to be straightened & styled with heat, up to 180˚.

Got to say, really loved the feel of it, it was so soft.
