Hi Everyone,

I have reasonably short hair at the sides and a high level of baldness/thinning on top that is probably not recoverable.  Currently, I just go with whatever length it is and pop my wig on and out I go.  I am not full time yet (November) and I am wondering what different natural hair length does for comfort.  We are heading into spring here in Australia and comfort over summer (it gets VERY hot here in Melbourne) is a bit of a concern.  Is it a good idea just to get rid of whatever natural hair I have and try to maximise summer comfort? If my natural hair grows a little bit, is that a source of irritation?

Interested to hear how other girls deal with this.

Hi Emma, I have the same issue with hairloss on the top, and have been shaving it clean for several years. A while back I tried growing it out a bit to see if there is any co ering I could do, but it didn't look like it, so after about 6-7months, I shaved it off again.
The dysphoria when looking at myself in the mirror with the extremely obvious male patter baldness is too much, but I am trying it again now, and hopefully I can get it longer this time around to see if I could possibly fit a partial wig or something like that.
What I have notice through the years is shaved clean=wig fits better but my head sweats more.

Number 1 comb all over every months or so. So very, very short. Especially going into summer.

I'll be doing a hair transplant in December to fix up a modest "Jack Nicholson" look.  Meantime I am growing my hair out and hiding it in the wig is a bit of a challenge. 

What works for me is to gel my hair and comb it back, putting what I can into a pony-tail.  Once this is all dry the wig works pretty well, despite the heat in Madrid. 

A question for you girls:  how often do you find you need to wash your wig??

Usually wash it every week. I'm wearing it every day and can sometimes get a bit sweaty when walking and overdressed for winter. A weekly wash keeps it feeling soft and smelling nice. I brush it out every day to avoid tangles. I've seen what happens to a wig that isn't looked after (think birds nest meets dreadlocks) and it ain't pretty!!

Yeah - the bird's nest look maaaan!  What puzzles me is how this lovely silky hair, after being conditioned with Pantene, turns into straw after just a few days....!  So I've taken to washing it twice a week. 

It will be a joy if/when I can use my own hair - I've wanted looong hair ever since I was a wee confused child  !!

That has me stumped too. At least now I know I'm not the only one that happens to!
