It's not just because we put so much effort into our presentation--although that could be one reason.  It's because it's a refusal to recognize what we are.  A lot of cisgender people simply refuse to recognize that ->-bleeped-<- exists.  When they deny what we are, they deny that we are.

Misgender a cisperson and see what kind of reaction you get.  Your gender is extremely important to you.  It's an extremely important part of your psychological foundation.  Misgendering someone is a direct attack on their very being.  Of course it hurts.  It's a serious and often deliberate insult.

When it's a direct attack it does hurt seem to hurt more, from my perspective However, not all misgendering is intentional. People aren't looking or aren't playing attention. Or at least with some of my family it takes some getting used to. But I don't feel its always done with malicious intent.
Live a life with no regrets and be the person you know you were meant to be.

I am a weird girl, I like video games and skirts, swords and nail polish, sharks and black lace...not sure if that's normal, definitely sure that I don't care. =P
