Hi, Im having a serious problem with effects of my laser hair removal on my facial hair, and I am really hoping someone can provide an answer to to whats going on.

I went for my first LHR session last wednesday, and the technician told me I could start shaving again then next morning. However, because my depression kicked up again I didnt end up shaving until Sunday. Most times when I shave, it goes fine, and even sometimes it can be a bit bloody, but yesterday no matter how much I shaved, lots of hair will not come out, so I now have a permenant (but short) beard :/

I am aware hair takes time to 'fall out' after laser, but these are large chunks of my facial hair, more than I doubt my first session would have affected. I have serious anxiety, which is worse on days when I cannot shave, so right now I am terrified to go outside. Is this really normal after the first session? Or can anyone please provide an insight? I feel really scared now and appreciate any help anyone can give me

Maybe trim it back with some small scissors and use a new/sharp razor?

After your first session the reduction of facial hair is almost unnoticeable, I only really noticed anything after the third session, even then it wasn't all that much, quickly picks up as the cumulative effects of hair removal start to become more apparent.

I'm not sure what you mean by "no matter how much I shaved, lots of hair will not come out"

I think it's normal, idk, it happens to me too though. It usually takes like a week, maybe a little longer, after laser for me before I am able to get a good shave w/o those little annoying pesky patches.

I have some problems on my chin after a session for about 3 days then it's back to normal I'm not sure what causes it but it isn't long term so I don't usually stress about it.

@MsGrace: Sharp razor: sounds good, out of budget :/

@Samantha: Like, the hair is the length I usually shave at, but running the razor over it doesnt trim it/get rid of it. I was expecting a few sessions before seeing it reduce, yeah, but this is kinda the opposite...

@LTD: Thats reassuring, thank you. Am i right to assume those patches wont come out no matter how much you shave?

Of course not - they will come out - eventually!

It doesn't have to be super expensive, I usually get a pack of disposable razors for less than ten bucks...

I have the same thing happen to me. If I had to guess (I am not doctor), it is because the follicles expands from the laser heat making them much more visible. You are still shaving off hair, its just that the bulb has expanded under the skin making it much more visible. I know JesseG has this same issue when getting laser done.

They most definitely will fall out!

For me it takes about a week and a half before the hairs just start falling out by washing my face.  However, the immediate days following a laser hair removal treatment, the hairs are basically not growing anymore and somewhat detached from their root making them "rubbery" (as described to me once by a laser tech).  With your hair being "rubbery" you cannot get a close shave because the the hair will be tugged out a bit and not cut close to the skin by a razor (worse with an electric razor that basically pulls and then cuts).

I believe what you are experiencing Kyla is normal.  I understand it can bring anxiety but hopefully you can look forward to the very, very close future when your face gets better

I had my first session last monday and finally today i was able to get a decent shave. I had the same problem a few days after the treatment i tried shaving and nothing was happening.all i ended up doing was irritating my skin and made myself bleed, the hair just wouldn't cut. Even today my shave wasn't that great.

Im now trying to figure out how to plan for the second session, i work in a professional setting so its not acceptable for me to look scruffy during the normal business hours. Im hoping it wont be a problem by the second treatment!
