I was wondering if there were any resources and/or someone could think of a list of surgeons they know are comprehensive. I'd prefer it were in the U.S., but still transportation is essentially a nonissue when compared to having something aesthetically appealing and functional. I've looked at the Transgender Center in Philly, but don't like some of the language they use on their website...I could get over that if the results are aesthetically appealing, but I can't really find anything. I'm mostly interested in a RF phalloplasty at this point. Brownstein/Crane's results in that category look most like a cispenis to me out of anything I've seen.

Also, if there's anything comprehensive on transbucket, it'd be nice to definitively know who they went to and where they went...that's been a bit of an issue for me with that site.

Yes, definitely stay away from Leis (Transgender Center).  I believe he does poor work and also I was at a recent conference where he was using female pronouns when talking about an FTM.  When I raised my hand and asked him if there was a reason why he was using that pronoun, he just blew me off.

I like Crane and his work.  If I ever got bottom surgery, he would be my chosen surgeon.

He really doesn't have a good reputation.  He may have at one time, I don't know.  Honestly, I think the only reason why he stays in business is that he was one of the first who did trans* surgery, so people just keep going to him (actually, I am not even sure how busy his practice is).  I know that he won't take Medicare.  He says that they don't pay enough.  No doubt they pay a much smaller amount than other insurance companies, but I don't think the Medicare "allowables" are even set yet, and yet he has already made up his mind.

Additionally, in the same workshop he lectured on about how MTFs wear too much makeup and that they would do better to wear lighter makeup and "only have a few accessories".  He actually talked for quite a bit about what makes a "pretty woman".  My mouth literally dropped open.  I find him to be quite sexist and misogynistic (I have also had a couple of small group conversations with him, as well).

Perhaps others have different experiences with him, but I have heard much the same.

I was thinking about switching to Cigna because I know they are good with in care coverage, especially for trans*folks. My state also has a bill-amendment that requires these procedures are covered as medically necessary anyway.

I want a positive experience as a patient and I couldn't imagine having to deal with that with someone who is reconstructing my downstairs. The pictures on his site don't look aesthetically unappealing, but they all sort of look very similar. My interest in him as a surgeon has gone down 75% after hearing this anecdote.

I'm also curious about Christopher J Salgado, but don't see any of his results online.

Have you joined the phallo groups on yahoo?  I know they are quite active.  The ones I know of are ftmphalloplastyinfo, phalloplastyinfo, and thedecidingline.  The Deciding Line also covers meta.  FTM Phalloplasty Info by far seems the most active and has the most members of the two phallo specific groups.  They have files as well as a whole gallery of results.

Wow, that's hard to believe (not that I don't). But strange treating those who butter your bread like that, so to speak. Yeah very much like Dr Crane, though he is on the "high end" of being costly.

I'll have to check that out. I assumed most Yahoo groups wouldn't be active anymore, so I didn't even think of that.

My understanding is the yahoo groups are active because you cannot post pictures to FB. (I mean not pictures of metas and phallos.) Someone rather stupidly tried to start a phallo group on FB and got kicked off very quickly.

There are some phallo and meta groups on Facebook, with photos on too. They're UK based though, so not much help here. 

In my opinion Dr Crane is CA is the best in the United States. Go to his official website and it has pictures of his results he also takes insurance so

I don't have any advice for phalloplasty but since this topic has Dr Leis included,  I would like to share my experience when I  went to him years ago for top surgery consultation.

First of, I was never even informed about the consultation fee AFTER the consultation itself.
During our talk, he explained the options for my breast size and went into details on how they would be reconstructed after checking them out.  He made a note saying that "many people would love to have what you have (not jus the chest part but the overall look)".. (I was disturbed of course)  I am not good at talking back to something unexpected so I didn't say anything.  He also went on and off about making a clear note of how my appearance in general was "too feminine for a guy" when this is the type of guy I identify myself as...

However I found this most disturbing:

"You'll be healed in 2 weeks and wouldn't even need to take any pain medications as most of my patients didn't"

This is actually what made my mom cancel my appointment..(I was desperate..)

I went to crane and would definitely reccomend him. Very open to trying new things, doesn't seem to be in it for the money, good results, etc. Also, if you're on the East Coast, he has a urologist he works with in upstate NY (thanks to me lol) who can do any necessary follow up care.

And to the last poster, I do just want to say I was like 90% healed from top surgery after 2 weeks and only had to take pain meds the first day, so thats not too crazy. Outside that though he sounds highly unprofessional.
