so I'm happy about this but also kind of awkward. I was calling my bank to set up online banking and I got a new job, so I had to get routing number and stuff for direct deposit. Anyway the guy asks for my account number and I give it. I haven't changed my name legally yet, just cause I don't have the money or time yet to deal with it (plus I'm only 4 months on T, so I figure I don't pass all the time very well) anyway the guy stops me and goes I need to speak to ____. I'm like uhh...he goes I can't do anything unless she is on the phone. I try to tell him that I am me, but he wouldn't believe me...which then it was awkward...I guess I could of told him I was trans and transitioning to a guy, but I just hung up and went to the bank in person with my id lol Needless to say, happy that I'm passing well on the phone, but also kind of funny/awkward when I fail using my legal name.

anyone else have trouble like this before and how did you handle it before changing your name legally

Congrats! Sort of speeds up the new name change, Huh? I had the same problem. It got to the point no one believed that the drivers license photo was me. Like you said nice, but awkward. You are just on fire Ryan! Great pass!!

I feel ya! It can be a hassle too. Whenever I've moved and needed to transfer or set up utilities, I always have to go in person and they make sure to tell me to bring my ID, lol... Yet they don't do that to my cis partner.

I had a guy at work try to pinch my nipple last night (we get stir crazy during the late night shift). Thankfully my binder plus tiny chest can usually pass any touch test. Still awkward tho hahaha.

Congratulations on getting recognized for who you really are Ryan. I don't know how long you've been on T but maybe to avoid such problems from occurring until you get your name legally changed, you can play with your voice by talking at a lower volume and that may prevent it. I do this sometimes when I have to talk with my health insurance's customer service because it says F even though my ID says M.

Well if the courts need a notarized statement from someone stating you are a really hot guy just hit me with a PM! 

Name changes in the UK are free and simple so I had the opposite problem for many many years - my name was changed super early in transition and I constantly had to get my partner to pretend to be me on the phone to pass security

I still get ma'am on the phone a lot, which I hate.

But speaking about utilities: I hadn't had any in my name since well before transition. But when I went to hook up the electric, they ask for SS#.  Of course, that's in the system as "old name."  Rather than come out to some anonymous person on the phone (and I really do NOT want "old name" associated with my new location/life, I just kind of grumbled and said my ex-wife used my SS# grumble grumble and she said it was against the law so make sure she didn't ever use it again. To which I replied she wouldn't ever be using it again, LOL

At least the electric is in my name.

I know when I asked the phone company to change my name, they did, but "old name" still appeared on most correspondence and solicitations from them, which is why when I started over in a new location I had nothing of "old name" forwarded.  Clean slate.

That happened a few times to me pre-name change.  One time I was getting blood taken and the lady said "Female Name .. your parents are just cruel (but in a funny way... it didn't sound offensive or mean)" then she noticed it said "Female" and said "Oh someone must of seen your name and changed it to F" 

I didn't argue.  Hah

Yeah man that awkward stage, you love it and you hate it sometimes. I had to explain to my car insurance company over the phone that I was trans. Most of the time they think I'm my own husband which is weird. They do it with my medicine too! It's been 2 years I need to do it lol.

Before I started T, I had a run in with the cops. They asked to see my ID (which had a female presenting me for the photo, and my very feminine birthname). They actually held the ID to their chest and asked me what name was on the ID, because they thought I had a fake one. So yay for passing, but nay for having to explain why the name and photo doesn't match who you are haha

Passport photo when entering the us and Japan. I actually had to explain to the customs agent last time I came back from the states. Finally I just said "New-half". His eyes almost popped out of his head, then he looked at me and said I looked like my own brother.
