I went to see my GP on Wednesday both for a physical and to get blood work done so my Endocrinologist would have something to work off of (my therapist told me to do this).  I decided I wanted to let him know why I wanted the blood work done and he was extremely supportive.  However he also asked me "so are you going to get the surgery here in town?"  I haven't even thought about surgery yet, and I somehow doubt there's anyone qualified around here.  I just thought that it was kind of a strange response.

It may show that they don't know much, but at least they generally come from a place of caring.

Wow, the amount of times I had been asked about surgery when coming out lol. Even my GP asked that same question.

It seems to come from a lack of knowledge on what transitioning is. To the broader world, changing gender seems to just be surgery and dressing differently. But of course, I do take such occasions as cues to politely educate that transition is so much more than elective surgery and dressing differently.
