I have been practising doing braids and ponytails... on a doll. Lol omg. It is just because I don't have long hair enough to do to myself yet. I have always observed girls do them, so it wasn't hard I just needed a few tips and practice. The more I practice, the quicker I will do them when I have to

I think I am going to pierce my ears, maybe as a "ritual of passage", ehehe

I wonder what next. Lol seriously, all I do is baby steps for now. I hope that changes.

I simply loved it when mine were done! To me it sort of hammered home my femininity and the permanence of what I was doing with transition. It is so amazing that something so small can have such a big impact. 

Just remember, baby steps are still steps forward!

IKR! I hope so too and makeup, I sooo want to try. But I'm so uhhh akwward, eheh. I bet I would look like a clown.

Wooow!! Lol, what a huge difference, omg!! Makeup is da best. Thank you so muuuch for the videos Mommy Jessica they'll surely be useful for my practice time

Just a suggestion, but I would start with cheaper makeup to learn and go to higher quality when you find the right look. It will save you a ton on makeup. At first you will go through it very fast when learning. I started with Covergirl and when I got proficient went to Maybelline or better.

I tried watching videos,reading books and never managed it.I can do an ordinary braid no problem.If I look in mirrors to get a rear view of the braid it's even more confusing!

Awww! IKR, I totally want to learn how french braid! The one Rapunzel from Tangled has is soooo pretty, I'm totally doing one for me someday

The basics of doing a French braid are easy. The trick is to do it on the back of your own head and make it look halfway decent. When you can see what you're doing it's awfully easy to get everything uneven and goofy looking. It usually takes me several tries to get anything presentable and I've been doing them for decades. That's one style that works best if you employ the aide of a friend.

Oh and don't we love long hair that can be braided and in tails.  I have had long hair the majority of my adult life but other than my "dress up" days of old it was kept in braid bondage.  Now I love have flowing tresses, girly pigtails and other ways to play.

I never could get the braids right on myself. Others I can but trying to look into the mirror and do everything backwards, I just can't. Ponytails and pigtails though, no problem. But the braids seem a little harder with curly hair anyway, it seems like I am always grabbing the wrong hairs because the hair goes all over the place.

I love French braids & had other people braid my hair many times. Finally I found a lady that could French braid her own hair & she let me watch her do it. That helped me figure it out but it still dosent look as nice as when someone else does it. Esther

Has anyone found a good self french braiding video on youtube?  I haven't had a chance to look yet.  And I will check out those makeup tutorials.  The ones I've watched helped with basic, but I want to get better/more colorful.

A huge part of the challenge with especially French or other close-braids is the physical arm strength - consider girls with African hair, for instance, their braids are commonly far more small, tight, and numerous. Getting one's hair done is simply a part of their culture, as is doing hair.

getting your ears pierced seems like a ritual of passage for us t-girls.. i loved it when i got mine done and now have 3 holes in each ear. I think for us t-girls its so special because it one of easier feminine things for us to do... and pull off. Getting your ear pierced is not sore at all... you only feel a small prick and its over.

in my opinion the easy more feminine things to pull off for us t-girls and that helps us feel feminine or me at least was:

piercing ears
shaving my legs and arm pits
wearing a panty
wearing nail polish.


I still cant braid my hair, almost 4 years HRT, if I tie my hair up, its in a pony tail, and closest i get to pig-tails is too pony tails on each side of my head. My cis-girl roommate once braided my hair for me and it look nice on me. I should maybe learn.

Hair play is just one of the tactile rituals that most cisgender girls experienced growing up and one that most of us MAABs likely missed.  It feels luxurious to play with our hair at any age and so wonderfully evocative of the feminine mystique.  I encourage any and all to indulge ourselves in our simple bodily pleasures

I learned to braid with rope but used it to get my hair out of my face and machinery. I think it is a skill that is easily learned (especially if you are younger). I also think that while doing many types of braids on  my own hair is easy, some people never master it. Practice on other things can help but, it isn't quite the same as having someone show you in person. If you can, get a friend to show you how they do it to their own hair, it will be easier to grasp how to hold and add the strands.
