Okay so I met a friend on Facebook and she is pre transition, mtf.
She is young I cant say on this post exactly where she lives for safety reasons, but are there any supports much in Virginia?

She wants to go on hrt but her parents dont support at all. She is out and they know about her.

They will not help in any way.
So if anyone has any suggestions or contacts or ideas, knows of support groups around, please let me know.

I don't want to start an argument but maybe the 17 people that did view your post had no viable information that would have been helpful so why get mad at everyone here? I understand the urge to help but getting angry does not help her situation, it's barely been an hour since you started the tread too. Give people time and the right folks that can help will post.

I fall into that group, I don't live in Virginia nor do I know anyone who lives there let alone what system they have in place for transgender people. Having no experience either with teenager issues I am of no help yet again. All I can say is I hope that she can get into a better place where support is there for her.

I suggest that she seek out a gender therapist for starters. If she wants to look into hrt and needs answers and help, a gender therapist could most definitely help. It is very saddening to hear that her parents do not support her, so she will need friends and people who she can talk to and help her along the way.

On a side note, Susan's is a place where everyone can share their stories and offer each other advice. It is not a popularity contest in any way, shape, or form. The reason why you may not get an immediate response could be that those who have read your post have no information that they can give you to help. For example, I could not help people who are looking for information pertaining to SRS as I have not had SRS and do not know much about the procedures. 

I know nothing about Virginia, but would suggest your friend seek out some counseling as a start. Maybe the school counselor.

Oh, I would add that the title to your post is very general, so you're probably getting way more views from people who don't have anything to they can say.
Also, often I will look at a post a couple times before I compose a reply.
If your friend needs very urgent help, there is a suicide hotline.

See? The latter half of your reply is just fine. It did t really help, but still I do appreciate it. I have no doubt in my mi d that people here, some people, have at least some idea of what I could suggest to her to help her. Any little bit could help.

This for sure. Just because no one responds they are reading and if they have suggestion they will gladly share them. Our membership is world wide. some are sleeping, some at work, etc. Some do not live in your area or have information you need, That is why so many views without an answer. You need to have much more patience here and help WILL come along.

Call DC Children's Hospital and ask for the Social Work Department. See if they can point her in the right direction.

If available a service for trans kids. In Philadelphia there is the Attic. Mazzoni (my LGBT primary care) has walk in on Wednesday nights for trans kids in Philadelphia. Most of the patients are trans.

That deff helps, i think those are good places to start.

If I remember right, not completely sure but I did a google search with the county name within quotes and the word transgender.  That is how I found the 'gender alliance' support group that meets once a week.  I still try to make it most every time, it helps alot.  Dani
