I came out to my best friend last week and telling him was the single difficult most thing I have ever done in my life!! He was very accepting and didn't have a single negative comment about our conversation. The best part is, today I receive a card in the mail from him which read.......

]At times, life's path seems filled with things that make the going rough, and we wish there were a smoother road, for we feel we've had enough.... But, if we pause a moment and remember who's i  n charge, the hills that loom ahead of us no longer seem so large. And every rock before us, when we know we're not alone, becomes, not just a stumbling block, but one more stepping stone...

On the inside he hand wrote..

Dear Melissa,
You've overcome so many things in your life, and, every time you've grown through sheer determination and the wisdom that you have shown. So as you face your journey, know that I will with you always and I know you'll have the strength to overcome anything in you way and complete your journey with the Utmost dignity and grace. Just like you've always shown.

Always your best friend forever,

Jim

Again, I am becoming very emotional while writing this just cannot believe this support and warmth that my best friend is showing. I now know that I have a very dear, close true friend and him. It is really comforting to know that he will still be there for me. He always has been there when I needed him the most, and cannot thank him enough for all he has done for me. How did your best friend react when you came out of the closet? A big warm hug to everyone!

My best friend just said "cool"... Waited 5 seconds... "promise.me you'll be a bridesmaid at my wedding"...another 5 seconds.."promise me I'll be a bridesmaid at your wedding"... and then she realised what she was saying and completely freaked out, in an amazing over excited kind of way
P.s. We were talking about weddings at the time, :p

Your friend sounds amazing, a card!!! How cute is that?!!!'!

MelissaAnn, a deep dedicated friendship you have formed with each other. One that will probably last a lifetime. Jim sounds like a great guy & a keeper.

@Jo-is-amazing, a beautiful happening with your best friend, I can feel the excitement.

That's really amazing :)
I would answer your question but I actually don't think I can... no, wait, I can but I don't want to. There was no general coming out to me but I did "come out" to one person and I don't think it went too well. Just as well, I switched all my friends and moved far away and made sure no one from my old life could contact me again. It worked out fine for me :)

Heck, where are the tissues after reading that?  :icon_cry2:

The most touching response I received was from my youngest daughter. She texted me this message after my ex told her about me:

"You know i still love you... i love you unconditionally so I'll always be by your side to support you like you've supported me all my life. I love you no matter what!!!!"

And this was written in the father's day card I got from her:

"Hello happy sort of fathers day! I feel weird saying father's day since it sounds too masculine so I'll just consider it a holiday for having you in my life since that's what this day's been for my whole life. Here's to the most unconventional "fathers" day gift ever :) (She sent me some nice jewelry). I love you & hope I can come out there soon! I love you & I miss you"

Yeah, shes a sweetheart  :)

My oldest daughter OTOH after finding out that her dad is trans was like "Cool! lets go get a hamburger"

Melissa

What a great friend.

While my best friends have not sent me a card (feeling jealous) each one of them was extremely supportive.  Comments included - "thank God, I though you were going to tell me that you have cancer", "if you are ok with this then I am ok with this", "this doesn't change a thing, you are still the same person", "why didn't you say something earlier, you must have been going through hell?"

Safe travels

What a cute story!  Has time changed her opinion on the bridesmaids promises?

This topic is bringing me much joy reading all the positive and uplifting stories.  So much struggling as a trans person, it's refreshing to see the soul-touching depth of love many people have for us (and we have for them) that lasts a life time and isn't severed by coming out.

Luckily I've had great reactions from everybody I've told, and yes some were fearful that it was something really serious!

There's nothing "serious" ( as in "wrong") with finally being yourself. People still want to take me shopping though...what does that say about my taste, Inwonder? :)
