Hi, All,

I think we have an old thread about how the health insurances for Federal employees would cover SRS in 2015.

Well, for a friend of mine there are two choices that cover SRS, and they are:

1) Aetna Open Access. This is a Health-Maintenance Organization (High and basic option). The basic option cost the same as the Foreign Service Benefits plan (see below).

2) Foreign Service Benefit plan (Administer by Coventry Health Care). This is a fee-for-service plan (high option)

The wording of what is covered for SRS is almost exactly in both plans (BTW no mention as to if the electrolysis of the pubic hairs is covered or not).

and now heres is what my friend  (and those who can choose) need help with: both plans require a recertification, and then whether or not they grant you the SRS is up to them.

Well, based in our experience which one of this companies is more likely to grant you the SRS based in past similar rulings ? What I mean is that SRS is not the only procedure that need pre certification and Company approval, so what is the reputation for this two plan as far as approving pre certified procedures?

I know that Aetna tend to be pain and that you need to haggle to get their approval, but I do not have any experience with the "Foreign Service Plan" which is offered by the American Foreign Service Protective Association.

Your inputs would be greatly appreciated.

I think the problem is whether you'll find any surgeon willing to take the insurance and also how much they pay. From what I heard even though SRS is covered they only pay like $5000 which is nothing
