I think I've only actually posted on here once and I was going through a really bad time. But now I have good news and I don't know who else to tell lol

I finally sort of came out to my mom. . . well she brought it up. I freaked out the other day as soon as "shark week" started. Couldn't quit crying for hours. She wanted to help me but I was so distraught at the time that I couldn't even imagine beginning that conversation. So today I told her why I couldn't quit crying and her response was, "so do you just hate being a girl?". I explained to her that it just isn't who I am. She went on to tell me that she thought gender was more than just what was in your pants and that she wasn't judging me she just wants to try and understand me. So I educated her a little and I think it's good now. She was on board with me finding a gender therapist even if I have to go a couple cities over for it. The next conversation will be trying to get her to switch to male pronouns so we'll see how that goes. I really want her to be a part of choosing my name too so I hope she's still this supportive when I tell her I plan on transitioning. This was such a huge step for my mom I don't wanna push her into it too fast.

I know how you feel about not wanting to push her too fast. When I told my mum she was very supportive but she didn't really understand. She asked me if I was going to change my name and when I said probably, she said that it might be confusing and could I not keep my [very feminine] name. It was clear she wasn't trying to be unsupportive, she just had no idea what being trans was. I gave her links to some websites and didn't push the issue, then about a month and a half later she asked me if I'd picked a name yet and that she wanted to pay for the name change.

I think that might be a good route for me too. Give her some information to read because she's really just clueless. She told me the other day, "I might not always understand it, but I'm trying." And that's really all I can ask of her. My dad on the other hand. . . well he's barely spoken to me since I cut my hair off. He lives in another state though so I'm not too worried about it. lol
