so i cleaned out my drawers today, and i noticed i dont have enough clothes, half of them are girly, (i never wear them anyways, usually only wear t shirts, but even those are a little too girly for my liking, basically i didint buy them so i suck it up!:D) and i went through and just started tearing out the girly outfits and throwing them in a pile to donate, (whilst some others got trashed because they were worn out) and i noticed that if i donated all my girly clothes i would only have one drawer full of the style i like.  (not including pants) Its a little frustrating for me, but im going to try to go shopping for more button ups and t's soon, so i can finally ditch all the old stuff that i dont like.

this is one step towards accepting myself, and being happy!

just realized this post has basically no purpose, my apologies.....

I had this issue in early transition. I basically decided overnight that I was going to be in "boy mode" from that moment forward, not taking into account that I had maybe one outfit that would work :D Once I made that leap though there was no way I was going back.

I asked my brother if he had any old stuff I could steal until I got my own and he gave me some undies and basic jeans and t-shirts to tide me over. I was unemployed at the time so building up my new wardrobe was a slow process of trawling charity shops for bargains.

6 years later I have the exact opposite problem. I have far too many clothes, my wardrobe and draws are bursting. I have an unreasonable amount of shoes too :P My partner has been bugging me lately about doing a clear out

Hi Guys,

You know, I just cleaned out my wardrobe. I had too many'guy' clothes! I think we should start a swap type of thing on Susans. I mean, doesn't it make sense? You guys need more guy clothes, where us girls need more girl clothes. It just makes sense right?

y'know I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't think that sort of stuff is allowed on Susans, I know selling is against the rules, not entirely sure about swapping.

There's probably websites out there for this sort of thing.....if not, I might make one  :D

Consider going to a thrift store.  You can build up your wardrobe there and not spend a fortune.

I have seen women come onto our forums here and offer to give away there male clothes for the cost of shipping.  I think like anything else we can give away things, just not sell them.

I'm with Jeatyn on cleaning out drawers and not going back. I thought I would change over gradually, but too many clothes that were okay a few months ago now have the ick factor.  (I might add, I had just spent money on girl clothes as a last ditch effort to make being a girl work.  Ugh!)

So, I'm now haunting a place called Uptown Cheapskate that sells used clothing.  They have franchises here in the States.  Slowly, I'm adding enough clothes to keep from having to wash every other night.

Its really a great idea and I'd like to stay up to date on any plans for that, please!

For me, its slightly different, I think. I've been living as gender queer for quite some time, so I do already have a fair amount of button down shirts, ties, vests, etc. However, a few years ago I went back to buying girl's pants and now only have like, two pairs of men's pants. So yeah, I'm in the market for pants and more dress shirts. I also recently started going through clothing and I have a ton of women's sweaters that I am NEVER going to wear again. I had been thinking of doing a garage sale, but would rather see them go to someone who is going to like/love seeing themselves in them. So yeah, please lets do some sort of swap!

The other sort of funny thing is that I am rather nervous about style stuff. I never worried about it from the female perspective, since I refused to dress up. But now I sit and contemplate every shirt/tie/vest/jacket combo before I leave the house in it. I used to enjoy watching the mens "What not to wear" episodes and I'm wondering if there are maybe some websites that could help me with "the rules"? I really don't get patterns, for instance...

Well tonight I loaded three garbage bags full of male clothes into the boot (I think that's a trunk for the US guys) of my car. I think way too heavy to ship, but if any guys are in Western Australia feel free to PM me. I'm a size 10-12 in girls, so, ummm, I think that's 32 waist in guys? But some nice suits, shirts and jeans. All free to a good home.

This girl doesn't need boy clothes anymore  :icon_chick:

Congrats on taking that step! I think I'm just a bit smaller than you but yeah, it would be a hell of a shipping fee. And yes, we call it a trunk. Why the heck do you guys call it a boot? lol, no really...

You know, I have no idea at all, but hey at least I'm up with the US language lol. And yeah, the weight was killer. Whilst you boys are packing on the muscles mine are dropping off, this girl struggled to get those three big bags in the, ahem, booth of my car!

I haven't quite decided what I am yet, but last week I decided to go shopping in the men's section for the first time. Dragged a friend with me because I was anxious and knew I'd be completely lost. It also made me sad because as I stared at the clothes I always wished I could wear, I felt even more lost than I usually am shopping for female clothes (maybe because I never pick out my clothes and let my mom do that for me, because I could care less and nothing ever appeals to me). Now all I want to do is wear the few shirts I bought and nothing else.

I look at my closet and it upsets me because I can't see anything in it that I'd want to wear anymore. Not that I ever wanted to wear them in the first place, but I was at least willing to. Now I'm just hoping I'll figure stuff out soon so I can hope to come out and get out of this awkward situation.

Not exactly the same case, but I feel you.
I'm trying to be somebody, I'm not trying to be somebody else.

I feel you. I can only say: start slow and take your time. I used to get anxiety attacks in the fitting rooms and leave the store without making a purchase. I found a Queer clothing website recently and the queer female that runs it shares her mantra: "I deserve to be handsome" see if telling yourself that helps.
Also, go to some used clothing places. First of all, they simply aren't as snooty and you may feel a little more secure looking through racks in the men's sections. They tend to have stuff split up by style, then by color. The major benefit is that you'll find stuff for less than $3. I actually managed to find some really spiffy stuff at Salvation Army recently and spent about $15. Ties are a major find, since new ties are around $30, but like $2.50 used. Just check them for stains before you buy them.
Good luck. Remember: You deserve to be handsome!

I never really had that problem with lack of clothes cause I've been wearing dude clothes since I was a kid. My wardrobe was a bunch of looser T-shirts, vests, ties, blazer, sneakers, leather jacket, button up shirts, etc. I do have a few girly clothes but it's cause my mom keeps buying them expecting me to wear them.  Only thing I'm really changing at the moment is my underwear, cause my mom kept giving me packs of underwear she got on sale  and at the time I figured "why go out and buy more underwear?" so I just wore the ones she got me. A few sets I felt were unisex and had a thick band at the top so I figured I just wear them till I get tired of them and get enough money to spend on good ones.

But yes, thrift stores are very good for building up your wardrobe, especially if you can catch a 5 for a $1 or 50% day at your thrift store. But lately, I feel that alot of things I want or care for at the thrift store, doesn't fit me well and I end up leaving there with close to nothing. I've been looking online for cheaper new clothes, and found a few asian sites that have very cheap but great looking clothes. It's even a plus that their sizes are more suited to smaller people so it's easier for you to get  nice fitted clothing if you're not as big as American sized dudes. Alot of American sized male stuff does not fit me well other then a t-shirt. But remember, if you are going to order off asian sites, to read over their sizing charts. Alot of times you still have to order one to two sizes up cause their "small" is not the same sized small that alot of us are used too. A small would probably be their Medium or Large. So keep that in mind.

i think thats pretty much what im doing here, cleaning out an not going back.

i thought i would be all slow going, and im trying to do this as slow as possible to try to keep myself under the radar so to speak, but i just feel more comfortable in my own skin this way, so as long as im happy, eh, who cares.

although im sure i wont think that when people actually start noticing, but i already came out as gay, so my wardrobe was alreay shifting as it was so maybe they willthink nothing of it?

idk..

money is uber tight, so shopping is almmost completely out of the question, unless i get maybe one xshirt a month at the thrift store, (which i love btw) which would suck...

maybe ill look around and see if i can find some sites that do swaps, that would be amazing!

I did pretty much decide the same thing, after a few months of confusion I was just like "f**k it", threw out all girly stuff, donated it, and restocked my wardrobe, all in one week. Luckily, I had only recently come back from spending one year in the tropes and since the cold times already started here in Germany it was a good excuse to go shopping for my parents.

And honestly, ever since I'm exclusively wearing guy clothes I have never felt better.
