Umm.. Ok so I'll start off by saying that I realize you become more emotional about things and can cry at random times, but I have yet to just cry for no reason from the start of my transition until like a week ago.  So the unexpected happened to me.  I was watching the movie "A Million Ways To Die In The West" which is incredibly funny.  I was watching it with my mom and brother and the first huge laughter scene happened in the movie and I laughed soooo hard, I said out loud my eyes are watering, the very next second it turned into full blown crying, and couldn't stop for 10 minutes.  I wasn't sad at all, and my mom says "see the hormones have you all ->-bleeped-<-ed up."  I told her in mid gasp cry "I don't care, I want to be a woman."  She is still grasping at straws to convince me to stop transitioning and go back to being the old me.

I'm curious if anyone else has had extreme emotion swings for know reason, so I know if this is normal or I'm just being worrisome.

In the first year of HRT i had pure pms @.@ but these days I cry at everything :P which makes presenting male really hard when your country was twisted by Christianity into homophobia being as natural as racism.
Your mood swings you calm down one day :D.

Nah, it's normal. Well, I hope so anyway coz that's what I've been all about as of late. I woke up crying this morning and then later on I was walking down the road smiling and laughing to myself... in fact, when my ex visited tonight I kept on almost bursting into tears inbetween laughing fits... I don't even know if they'd have been tears of happiness, sadness or both. So yeah, it seems to be a common occurence for us. It might not just be the hormones either, though they definitely magnify everything. Even transitioning without HRT leads to emotional swings. It's a turbulent difficult journey at times and laughing and crying are both normal healthy outlets even if other people might not always get it. :)

Oh I remember those days... :) Laughing and crying at the same time without control.

I think it takes a while for your mind to really get a solid grip on the way your emotions work with the right hormones going through you.

Back in March I quit my job of 7.5 years where I had many supportive encouraging friends who had helped me actually transition on the job one month prior.  To start a new, lower paying job in a different field which I knew very little about.

Last day at work.... fine all morning.  Fine all afternoon.  Took one last look around, drove away... about an hour after I got home I just looked at my wife and said "I just quit my job" and I absolutely burst into tears and cried uncontrollably for like half an hour.

Now, granted there was some legitimate emotional fuel for that one, but still.  That was pretty damn sudden.

It happens now and again.  Yay estrogen!  :P

Well I have always been emotional (even before transitioning) and it is part of what makes me who I am. I do not think there is anything wrong with it. Life would not be what it is without these feelings. If people frown upon you for this kind of thing, be assured it is their problem and not yours. Maturity is so overrated; self-expression is a beautiful thing.

I do have one word of caution, though: If there is a feeling of anger, anxiety, or severe negativity while having these emotions, that can actually be associated with low or unstable estradiol levels. It was for me, at least.

I so don't miss the emotional roller coaster haha!!! Welcome to your second puberty!!! It gets better, just give it time. Took me about a year to have 'normal' emotions from starting E. Just wait it out and trust me when I say, it's sooo worth it!!!!!

Leila

It's all perfectly normal.

One day when I started bawling my eyes out after watching a tragic article on the news I too was told the HRT was turning me into a woman, but by my wife. I too told her, I didn't mind it.  :) I avoided looking at her face to gauge her reaction to that.

It's like being Data after having found the emotion chip and discovering how to use it.
Nobody's perfect ...   I'll never try,
But I promise I'm worth it, if you just open up your eyes,
I don't need a second chance, I need a friend,
Someone who's gonna stand by me right there till the end,
If you want the best of my heart, you've just gotta see the good in me.

Yeah, that's exactly how it is.

Before I was all like:

But now I'm all like:

But sometimes, on a really bad day... this happens:

OMG...! This is happening to me a lot lately. While watching movies. I start crying over the littlest thing it doesn't matter if it's sad or if it's happy. Whether it's romantic or action. I seem to cry during every movie now and I love it.

I was planning on watching The Fault In Our Stars. I may need to ready up a large box of tissues to mop my eyes in that case.

I wonder how many of us heard that stupid advice growing up "don't be such a sissy, stop that crying or I'll give you something to cry about"??  Such admonitions and restrictions on our emotional development are wrong headed and harmful for cis or trans people.  When the tears and fears routines started happening to me I initially was embarrassed and upset.  Now I am loving the greater depth, color and range of an emotional existence where it is just fine to let it flow.  Cathartic too, even if it's hard to explain the exact triggers.

Haha definitely get a large box, I had a pack of tissue paper in my purse and it wasn't enough  :P the good thing is that the room was dark so only my ex knew I was crying non-stop hahaha haha but it's a really good movie  ;)
