i was just wondering how many letters did he require y'all??? and i heard that if patients can't get their letters in their own place they can get a letter from a psychiatrist in thailand? is this true?

As his website states, you need two letters of referral from qualified (dr) therapists. However if you can't get these his team will ask you to visit psychotherapist in Bangkok at your expense.

The letters must be submitted in advance (at least four weeks) so that they can be evaluated. You will need to bring originals with you.

No...
You will need to supply your therapists letters about one month in advance. If you cant get those (because you seem to be self medicating) then they will arrange for you to visit the psychotherapists in thailand, a few days before your surgery.

And note - there is no guarantee that the thai therapists will sign your letters if you have no proof of therapy or long term real life experience.

The 30 day thai visa should be enough time for everything. But please please get yourself a therapist and doctor you can trust. This is not only for before - but much more importantly after your srs. You will not be working for a least 4-6 weeks... Any complication should be checked thoroughly and timely.

SRS will have a major impact on your life and should not be done without understanding this. There are some very useful threads in post-op section of Susan's. Please read them. And remove the pink tinted glasses. This is a serious life changing experience and not one to under estimate. It is beautiful...

If you can't get a primary letter from a LICENSED Psychologist or Psychiatrist AND a 2nd support letter from a LICENSED psychologist, Psychiatrist, sexologist, or gender therapist then you can choose to have Dr Chettawut/Ms Som consult you with 2 therapist in Thailand but that will be more expensive as she told me.

I got a primary letter from a Licensed psychologist with the letter addressing it to Dr Chettawut with the WPATH guidelines included in the letter as well as a signature and the license number. If they have a website and a business card, that would help out Dr Chettawut and his team extremely so they can determine the authentication of the licensed psychologist, etc.

Once you send a copy to Ms Som, they will let you know by email if it is approved by Dr Chettawut. Once it's approved, just make sure you keep the original files in a safe place cause Dr will need that when you have your consultation when you get to Thailand
15 years on HRT and going, started at age 16.

SRS+BA done in Bangkok, Thailand by the hands of Dr Chettawut Tulayaphanich and his team on November 1, 2014.

Yes, what the rest have said are right.

As of last year, it was 9600 thai baht per letter (do the math approx 300 USD). And there's no guarantee so please do not think it's a ''sure-get''.

I suggest getting them in your home country then confirming everything before visiting Thailand.

I've not been there, but I'd be very careful about what might happen if you get there without letters and can't get them there either. I'd guess you need to pay the full amount for the surgery some time before, and I doubt its refundable in the event that you can't get your letters and Dr Chet. has no surgery that day.

If there's any risk of that perhaps you could have a short visit trip to Thailand beforehand to get your letters, then go back again later for SRS. Or just get them at home.

Hi
I'd just add to make sure you take original documents.  One of mine wasn't (d'oh) and had to see the psych in Thailand.  Wasn't anything to be worried about.  If you have been living full time, on HRT etc and have one other letter from home (ORIGINAL!) you will be fine.  The are not trying to trip you up, just to tick the boxes etc

It also helps to mention you like Thai food! ;)

That was my experience anyway

Costs for cancelled surgery are all laid out on Dr Chett's website so check those carefully

cheers
Sarah
No matter where you go, there you are

My state healthcare Gender identity unit makes it mandatory to keep being in therapy with both a general psychologist and a psychiatrist specialised en GID, so as soon as I am back I'll ask each one to write the letters. For once, they will be useful for other thing that making me lose time (No therapy = no paid hormones or breast augmentation).
