The pads and underwear are holding in moisture and irritating me. Is it ok if I sleep naked or with just some loose sweats? Im exactly 2 wees post op.

I used the panties from the residence and a towel on bed.

But that was after a month or so.

Can a panty liner be better.

Also larger then normal panties are a must.

Need the extra room

First I want to thank you for all your responses Izzy. I have been posting questions non stop and you have answered them thank you! The mesh bothers me and digs into my labia. I also have a lot of fibrin in the stitches by the anal area and thinking its because of the pads and underwear holding in moisture. It's hard to clean to the fibrin because theres stitches there and Ims cared to pull it out. Any suggestions?

Didn't you go to Brassard? The instructions TELL you to sleep naked. :)

Look up the Chux pads that they recommend, and use those to protect the bed; a waterproof mattress cover is always wise, too. But yes, naked is better!

Get yourself a couple of long cotton nighties which stretch below your waist and sleep commando. It helps a lot and any oozing is pretty much caught in the material. Chosen nighties regularly

I found some cheap ones at Tesco in Bangkok and have been commando for many months now

Agree with Jenna, The nurses actually told me to sleep naked, I'm 6 months post op and only wear a long tee shirt to bed. I used bed pads the first month or so. Also went to Dr B

13 months post-op and still naked in bed. All that trapped moisture is a breeding ground for bad bacteria. I still use a hair dryer to dry myself off after a bath or shower, just to be safe.

Dr Brassard has been revising a lot of things lately. So if you are not sure you are better off emailing him, as any knowledge you gain here is older then yours.

And you can update us with his answers too :D

I quit using pads after 10 days. I hate them. I sleep in my underwear, no problem at all. I slept without, but my sheets rubbed against the area which hurt and changing sheets everyday isn't feasible. I see no problem in wearing underwear, I did and it did not change anything to the healing process. Moisture is needed for granulation tissue to heal, so I take a piece cotton put it under the tap and squeeze the water unto the labia and go to sleep. Sometimes I mix in betadine to prevent any infection, although it isn't needed. The risk of infection is extremely low, unless there is an open wound, then I use betadine until there is enough granulation. Airing out a wound is a medical myth. For wounds to properly heal they need to be covered and "moisturized", just like a plant: not too much, and not too little. But a wound without moisture will never heal properly. In fact, dry wounds promote cell death and is counterproductive in autolytic debridement and therefore slows wound healing. Bacteria are the least of your concern, the body deals with it.

Oh, good, I'm glad they got back to you right away! Good thing you asked, too, since that's *not* something that should have been deleted from the instructions. :)

3 weeks post op and going home tomorrow. I use a dress most ly with no underwear at all. I only use the pads when I dilate so the lube doesn't get on the sheets. So far I haven't really bled much only the first week.

I slept naked on a large throw away pad and on days of not doing anything I just had a dressing gown on no knickers unless going out.
