Hey hey ^_^

I just wanted to know if anyone knows of any good trans support groups for the UK. I am just about the only trans person I ever met and I would like to change that. I spoke to Cindy and she suggested making a thread for this so, here I am :-)

I am personally in the midlands, and I found this group http://www.gender-matters.org.uk/

I have just found it though and so I can't say what its like yet, but I wil report back when I get to go (which will be a couple of months :-| )

Anybody else want to share some links or info on support groups?

Thanks! ^_^

Thanks big Kim :-) I think that might be a bit far for me at the moment :-)  there doesn't seem to be much around does there?

Unfortunately, I'm not in the Midlands - just outside Glasgow - but here's a few suggestions;

Do you see a therapist via a gender clinic? The clinics often run multiple support groups, catering from everyone to exclusive groups and also run groups for the partners-of-trans people.

Also, I suppose you could ask your therapist if (s)he treats other people in similar circumstances and ask if they could pass on your info. I met a few people that way, and we usually have nights out every few months :)

Sometimes you have to trust people to understand you are not perfect

I'm having the same problem, i'm pretty much on my own as none of my friends and family even know i'm trans! I live in Hull East Yorkshire, I know theres a pretty good scene here, it's making new friends which is dificult.

I went to Gender matters it was really good.  Very friendly and I met good few trans people and they have a good support thing going on there with their own councillor.

I am not sure of anything near hull though,  sorry!

Nobody's perfect ...   I'll never try,
But I promise I'm worth it, if you just open up your eyes,
I don't need a second chance, I need a friend,
Someone who's gonna stand by me right there till the end,
If you want the best of my heart, you've just gotta see the good in me.

I'm in East Anglia , I would like to meet and make friends with anyone in the area, I'm happy to travel out to meet people, honstly I'm really lonely and there seems to be no support groups near me.

London Friend host T on Tuesday which is a discussion/support group for trans people. It's held every fortnight and is really friendly and welcoming.

I used to go to the Gender Matters Thursday drop ins when I was living in Birmingham, and found it well worthwhile going. Unfortunately I've since had to move to London, and the last time I went was a couple of years ago.

Last I heard, their funding had run out and they'd had to give up the building they were leasing, hence were no longer hosting the drop ins. I don't know whether that's changed, or whether they're still organising events apart from the drop ins.

There was an LGBT centre of some kind that was supposed to be opening in Birmingham shortly after I moved. I can't remember what it was going to be called and never got to check it out, but maybe that's something else to look into?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see this was a 2013 post! I'll leave my reply anyway, in case it's of use to anyone.

Hi Yenneffer;
I am from Exeter and I have a Post Op girlfriend that lives in Bournemouth. She has fully transitioned and has had SRS and BA and is a very successful Business woman. If you want to send me your personal Email (send me a PM with the details), I will pass  your contact details onto her. I cannot guarantee she will make contact, but I can ask for you.

I also have some TG friends in Devon and there is an excellent support group I can put you onto in Torquay.

Hi Kira21;
You might try any of these. I went to all three recently whilst in my UK Property (I commute between the UK, the Far East & Australia).

The WayOut Club (Night Club) in London (see: http://www.thewayoutclub.com) where I had a great night out with a Girlfriend. Every Saturday in the Minories near Tower Bridge.

A TG Club in Brentwood (Essex http://www.transliving.co.uk/events.html) where  I met a really very nice Pre-Op TS that has just gone full time.

A TG Support group in Torquay in Devon http://www.transfigurations.co.uk). Here I met a a whole bunch of really nice people. Carole (Post OP M2F runs the group) which has predominantly Transgender M2F and F2M in it. They are quite active in the LGBT Community and meet twice a month.
