I was utterly horrified by the question being asked.  It's not so much that the article is good, but that the question is so utterly repugnant.  Thankfully the community replies so far are constructive rather thanhostile, and that's the value of the piece for us.

But it's terrifying to find companies with such a lack of care for their employees that such a question could even be asked.

I agree but the question was asked and the person asking was rather severely upbraided by the person answering and the commenters. In that regard it's a very good article. The amount of support in the comments section is wonderful.

Wow!  Reading those comments left me with tears in my eyes. 

There may be hope for the human species yet.

The comments should make it clear to the person that asked that question that it is not ok to callously fire someone because of a birth defect. Hopefully that person will listen to the reasonable responses that were posted and will think about what they were proposing, and if they proceed anyway with firing the person they will get a richly deserved lawsuit.

I recently came out at my job and am in the early stages of my transition, so this article was very helpful.  Thanks so much for posting it.
