I also have long hair (middle of my back) and it's rather thick. I put it up, wear what's called a "wig cap" (basically pantyhose with a band that sits at your hairline) and I use clips to secure the wig.

Yeah. Check on youtube something like "wear wigs with long hair". There's a tutorial on how to arrange your hair to even use short hair wigs.

This is someone I follow on Tumblr and she cosplays and she made this video to show how she gets her long hair under a short hair wig and have it look natural. I am guessing this is kind of what Julia was referring to. So I would say it is possible to have long hair under a wig.

You basically just pin up your hair in sections and you get the right wig for you head size so it shouldn't fall off at all. Getting a professional fit will ensure it stays on properly. Some even have adjustable straps inside to get an even tighter fit.
