Why can't I grow a mustache?

It's sometimes just one of those things. My bro, who was 100% cis-male had trouble growing facial hair for years because we have very light blonde hair until it's seen the light of day for a good long time. As babies and very young kids we were white blonde and it got a bit darker as the years went by. I have several hairs on my chin - I refer to them as my goatee - and they are totally white blonde and practically invisible. My mother, who is VERY looks focused and doesn't know of my FtM trans* explorations, has yet to make any comment despite sitting directly across from me for several hours yesterday.

Patience and that reminder that HRT drags us back to puberty will help. :) Good like growing a mountain man beard! ;)

You asked so: I've been on T almost two years. My stache is very light. I sometimes use Just for Men Beard and Mustache dye. (It works fairly well but you must have hair not peach fuzz.) It's also not filled in. I don't really have a lot of facial hair, but I am also older and had a little having gone thru menopause. TBH, I kind of laugh at mine.  I see sometimes the over 40 guys do just a bit better.

I grew a little teensy beardlet for No Shave November. Talk about humor. :) I'm thinking I will shave and try again next year.

BTW, not sure who you are watching on youtube. But several of the "famous youtubers" are fairly beardless (Skylarkeleven, who's been on T for 5 years, for instance).

Still we're all individuals. The only guys who all have beards/facial scruff of any note, are guys who have been on T for many years. But actual beard beards. Not all men can grow them.

Guys who are extremely hairy are an anomaly; however, it is that tied to masculinity that even cismen have a hard time realizing not having something doesn't make them less of a man. I currently am in a position where I have cismen envious of my facial & body hair. When you're given the opportunity to look in on a situation like that, you realize a lot of people feed into these insecurities.

So far I haven't been very lucky in the facial hair department either, but more successful in the body hair department.

My jobcoach, who's in his late 30's, still can't grow proper facial hair. When he does try it's thin, whispy and patchy at best. Even cis-men have trouble.

I do wonder if I would grow one. Father's side has freaky long beard but mother's side is stubble I think since I never seen it longer than that.

I'm 3 weeks and 2 days on T, and I have a few tiny black moustache hairs already. I have Hungarian heritage though, so therefore I have obviously got the "hairy genes". It all depends on genetics, and family history as people have said. Skylarkeleven on youtube has been on T for 5 years and still barely any facial hair

If it makes you feel better I could pretty much grow hair every where but my mustache when I started estrogen at 28. So even growing up male bodied that one spot alluded me in terms of facial hair.

I'm like this too. I haven't been on T very long yet- 3 months- and I've had like 3 true hairs grow on my face. But they are very white blond (along with all my leg hair) so it is IMPOSSIBLE to see except in very specific lighting. My legs are darkening a tad but I'm starting to realise it will be a good long white before my facial hair even grows, let alone is worth anything.

I'm pre-everything and I've had to shave since I was twenty-two.  It's just a light moustache and a handful of hairs on my chin and neck.  I figure it's genetic.  Dad and Bro are both pretty hairy, and Bro had to start shaving when he was eight.  No lie.  Dude had a 'stache while he was in primary.  Maternal grandfather, semi-hairy.  Paternal grandfather, semi-hairy.  Uncles, they vary with the hairy.  Me, I just put out a lot of natural T already.  Had blood analysis done in 2011 and it said my testosterone was eleven points over the max mark for females of my age range.  [Then again, my mum kinda has to shave right now...and she's sixty-three...]

So, yeah, you have to look at your entire family tree, you have to consider your testosterone levels, and you may even have to look at your diet.  Certain multivitamins will encourage hair growth.  I take a Geritol every day and my hair grows really fast, not just on my head, but also my face.  [It also makes me feel good and helps keep my anxiety levels down.]

My condolences bro...  You are not alone, though I know just saying that does not alleviate your frustration.  My mustache is virtually the same as it was before starting T almost 4 years ago.  Being blonde has not helped the visibility of what little facial hair I can grow.  I do get pretty good chin and neck beard (for a blonde guy), but nothing other than  wispy patches of fine blonde hair on the sides.  I will likely never rock the sweet sideburns for which I was hoping.  Actually, I believe my 66 year old mother has thicker sideburns than I do  :'(  I will say that my chin/neck hair started to grow thicker and quicker after having the ovaries removed a year ago.  I have come to terms with my lack of desired facial hair and have become grateful that I am not losing all the hair on top of my head!
