I haven't seen my older brother since I was 6 or 7, but we've maintained some contact since the beginning of face book.  He lives out of state, and he is gay.. which I think is one of the reasons he left.. as our parents didn't accept that.  We never really been much close, just an occasional "merry christmas" or "happy birthday, how's things going?" here and there.  So today, we had the longest conversation ever... and think we bonded as brother and sister more... he's the first family member I've told about my transition.  Only the friends who I am retaining in my new life, and of course my fiance', knows.  He urged me to tell our parents.. and even offered to come and help me..first telling them he is marrying a guy, then telling them I am transitioning into a female.  But, I think it would be WAY too much for them to handle at once.  He offered to let me move in with him and his fiance' if they gave me problems until I move in with my fiance' but I decided I am just keeping it on the low for now...quite possibly I may move in with them in a month or two until next spring.  Either way, we plan to have a reunite next year and spend a little time together as we've never had a chance to do that in our lives.  He's invited my fiance' and I to his wedding and we're inviting him to ours.  I am just stoked and happy tears...next year is going to be awesome...

Awww I'm so happy for you! Congratulations on getting engaged. You sound like you have an awesome brother.

With your parents, I think it would be a better idea to space it out, and tell them about you being trans and your brother being engaged at different times.

But honestly, your parents' opinions don't matter anymore. You're out of their house and you're an adult. Unfortunately I'm not out of that situation yet, but now that you are, just take their acceptance if it's offered. If acceptance is not shown, then you don't need people who don't love you for who you are in your life. It's their loss.

Congratulations once again, and I hope you and your brother both have wonderful weddings. :)
20, Cisgender, Lesbian. I have a girlfriend who is transgender and is 21. I'm mainly here for her.

Feel free to PM me! Have a nice day/night! :)

Thanks.... but, I am still with my parents at the moment... I had to move back in with them after getting a very complicated medical problem earlier this year... I couldn't afford rent and bills by myself on social security/disability.  So I am at their mercy when it comes to a shelter.  I am relived though my brother will take me in if they find out and I have to leave.  My fiance' would too, but we're both not ready for me to live with him yet... .... and you're so right, if they don't accept me, their loss... loss of a daughter
