Hello again, I want to ask just as the headline says. What would happen if you left your dilator in for more than 2 hours? Is it bad or good?

The reason I'm asking is that if you left it in for 2 hours or more would it benefit from anything or what consequences could happen if I did?

Would it perhaps maybe help with stretching out the vagina since it's been in there for a long time?

It might get "stuck," or dry/friction-causing enough to tear the tissues. That was Brassard's nurses' answer when people would ask why not to prolong a dilation session too much. As Izzy says, it's different when you're long post-op, but it's wisest not to experiment too early in the healing process. The surgeons have good reason for the dilation regimen they came up with.

My understanding is that most of the benefits of dilation accrue when the dilator goes in. The waiting period is just time for the tissues to adjust to being forcibly widened. So I wouldn't expect additional time to provide much benefit to offset the risks others have noted.

I've fallen asleep with it in, too. No bad effects. An oil based lubricant may lessen absorption. I've wondered about obtaining a flexible dilator, just long or short enough to be flush with the vulva when inserted fully with tight knickers, allowing me to go about my daily business.

If I were purposefully dilating for 2 hours then I'd keep the dilator in for 30 minutes, remove for 1 minute, reinsert for another 30 minutes and keep repeating until 2 hours have transpired. The reason being would be to maintain a good blood flow, prevent it from becoming stale, within the stretched vaginal skin. I've actually felt myself becoming numb around the entrance after 30 minutes. And this has had me worried. To reduce this issue, I sometimes move the dilator around in circles/ellipses to 'massage' the vagina.

I asked that my nurse once and I think she told me it damages the tissue or something...

interesting since Dr. Chettawut, and Sri actually advised be to do a 1-2 hour dilation before I left to go back home, said it was because of the lengthy flifgt and no chance to dilate in between. So OP it leads e to believe nothing would happen as I did a 2 hour dilation at a little over 2 weeks after srs.

This seems to prove yet again, that surgeons have no clue about what happens when dilating. Maybe it is only told as precaution, to cover their own work. So they can say: did you follow my advise and dilate?

Currently I dilate 1 time a day for over a week now. I don't notice any difference with dilating 2 times or even 3 times a day. Can reach the same depth and width. In fact, my surgeon told me last time I should not dilate 2 times, but only 1 time a day. When I told him that some surgeons advise 3 to 5 times a day, he laughed out loud, he said it was silly. Go figure...

Yea i usually dilate standing and since it pushes out, I use panties to hold it in. I'm 6 weeks post op now and the healing seems rather great after I started hormones again but it does somewhat force it's way out when I'm dilating.

I'd love to only dilate once a day. I'm 6 weeks post op now and the regime said dilate 3 times a day. I tried that and it's difficult to do anything throughout the day. I usually stand up to dilate and walk around the house in short distances carefully but if I lessened my dilating time, I feel afraid of my depth losing if I stopped dilating 3 times a day. I stepped down to 2 times a day now though.
