"Now Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is warning insurance companies that they will no longer be allowed to deny gender reassignment surgery or other treatment to change a person's gender, like hormone therapy, if a doctor has deemed that treatment medically necessary."

Wow, I hope I don't have to pay a ton sometime late next year for top surgery.

I saw this and posted it (poorly). Removed my post. Thank you for doing a better job, Marcellow.

This may well keep me in NYS longer than I had planned for.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

They say the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. I say, climb aboard!

NY has always been on my short list of possible places to relocate. It won't work in time for top surgery, but good to keep on the radar for lower surgery.

Not bad. I have a NY plan. I am a few years away from SRS but it's nice to know it's covered. I'm guessing it will cover US surgeons only?

This is an interesting thing though. My hormones are not covered by my prescription plan because I'm not listed as a female. I wonder if this will change? It's neither here nor there cost wise as I can get them from walmart for $10 but it's the principle of it. Doctor visits are in fact covered though. I am yet to get a lab bill but I'm hoping I don't have to fight them to cover it.

Kate, how are they coding your hormones? Not sure if it would work, but it may help if they code it as a hormonal imbalance. I believe that's what the clinic I go to does.

Yeah they do that. I have to talk to the insurance and see exactly why they are turning me down. But I have the $10 estradiol from Walmart so I'm not too worried. The dr visits are fully covered, just a $15 copay.
