So Germany allows Parents to register their children as Gender Neutral on the child's birth certificate. Personally, though I think it may be a terrible idea. It just seems to me that we are kind of a rare occurrence (between 1 in 2500 and 1in 100 000), and that most of the kids who are gender neutral will be cis and will end up in a dark and confusing place. 

I kinda just want to know what people's think about this?
like is it something we as a community largely agree with?

At this time, no. I think it could be problematic for kids. Unless everyone's doing it. Maybe at some point in the future, it will be a good idea.

Considering the alt is forced genital assignment I think it's an ok thing. Although considering advancements in biometric identity I'm still not convinced there's a need for a gender marker at all on identity documents (it's not like anyone is going to have their gender identity invalidated by their card/passport/BC/whatever lacking a single letter).

I spent a good part of my career in Labor and Delivery rooms as an anesthetist and experienced thousands of births.  While some institutions and practitioners are becoming more progressive the birth of an intersex baby was treated as some kind of emergency.  The chaplain, endocrinologist, pediatrician and surgeon were called and the pressure began to "normalize" an essentially very happy baby in no apparent distress and needing only love and nourishment.  With ultra sound the discussions start even before birth. 

Gender is not just f or m and understanding may be facilitated by a political effort to recognize this fact of life.  We can do better than the archaic systems in place and countries like Germany and Spain are leading the way.  It is time for change.

I don't think they need to put anything on a birth cert regarding gender. They are wrong way too often.

this my thoughts exactly. then the only confusing thing you got left is other people saying that's for boys or girls,
(forces them to ask the question in the first place) am I a boy or a girl? so stop gendering anything and boom problem solved.
then puberty talks about sex instead of gender. a person with this, and a person with that. instead of a person with all of these other qualities we have taught you means man and/or woman.

Like candice the best way would be to let people decide there gender once they grew older insteed of at birth. but if that not an option then I think its good that there is a gender neutral option as an alternative for parrents Not to force to decide there kids gender and undergo surgery and when they grew older they should be able to change to male or female and have threatment if they wish.

the german law however is not perfect and the intersex comunity is not that happy about it because theres holes in the laws who make it unpractical because people with a third gender dosent have the same rights as male or females do which just leave to even more discriminations. beside that for a person later on to decide of being exemple female it can only be done by undergoing surgery which was the whole point of making the law NOT to force anyone into having surgery.

So for germany the thought is good but they need to fix some issues before it can really work out well. there are multiply of countrys like german who got third gender options and I never thought that was a bad thing you just need to make it in a way which work.

Actually, they allow Intersex as an option, rather than male or female.  I find it a two sided coin.

On one side, it's a good idea, because with intersex, gender is kinda complicated.  But they wouldn't be forced into one group or another.
On the other side, there is still a lot of stigma, and shame with being Intersex.  And having it on a legal document, could be stressful.

If I had of had gender neutral on my birth certificate I would have known that, I have a choice in my gender and I could make the change, like I knew really early in life that I am a girl not a boy n all of this would have made it that much easier to come out, instead of going through all the confusion. So for that reason I think it's a great idea.
