Lake James

I appreciate the subject of names has probably been done to death but I've made it my New Years resolution to give the guy in me a name.  Those are my final 3 and I can't decide.  Thanks guys xxx

I like the name Lake best, but the sound of "Harbor James" sounds better.  I am in a situation with the name Brett not sounding as good with my surname as another first name might (Evan), but I don't like that name as much as I do Brett.  I would go with the first name you like best, more than the sound of the pairing.

Lake James

Hey buddy :) thanks for the reply.  That's the exact same problem I have.  Harbor James sounds better but when I picture Harbor I can't see myself, whereas I can with Lake.

If your heart says Brett then go with it :)

I visualise all my name choices on army name tapes, laying on a table.  Which one would you pick up straight away ?  Mine is always Lake.   What would yours be ?

Marcellow

Then I would strongly go with Lake if that's how you feel.
Most names I liked didn't fit my legal surname anyways so I'm changing that as well.

I clicked Harbor based on it sounding better, but def go with Lake if it's what you FEEL the guy in you is supposed to be called. You could always find a middle name that helps smooth out the sound!

Harbor sounds fitting with the last name, but a little to folky, Lake James sounds a bit more modern&cooler.

I agree with LoriLorenz, use a middle name to help it flow better. I would pick Lake because that's what name you feel fits you.

I chose my name because I always wanted to name a daughter Katy, but I lost the ability to have children. So i saw it as breathing new life into my hopes and dreams ^^ xx

Perhaps Lake Harbor James? But I definitely like Lake for the first name but in the end its all about what you feel suits you best. Good luck bro, I did the whole back and forth thing till I settled on a name that suits me perfectly :)

I have never met a person named Lake, Harbor or North.  That's a clue that this was a "made up" name, and not one given to you as a baby boy.  Being trans is difficult enough without having a "stand out" name.

The popularity of names changes through time.  I recommend you pick a name that male classmates had when you were growing up.  The social security web page has a list of common first names for different decades.

I always suggest the same thing to people (especially if they want to be stealth).  If they can at least get it into the right decade, that would be good.  The problem for me is I simply don't like any of the popular names from around my birth year.  Brett doesn't seem to ever have been popular, but is recognizable, so I figure it is ok.  Except pretty much everyone in my life prefers the other names I have put out there as options!  ha!

Since you've got it as your username, and it's the first one in your poll, I think you'd probably regret not going with Lake. Going by your surname though you're probably going to have a lot of people getting them the wrong way around but that shouldn't put you off if it's what you want.

I've no idea why Andrew came to me, it just did and instantly felt right. Sounds like you've got your name too :)

Go with what feels right. I began with a name I liked the sound of but didn't fit. It was really obvious it didn't fit, but then I heard the name Calvin, and I thought, hey that's me. You just tend to know whether it fits. And if it fits it's probably right for you. If Lake feels right, go with Lake.
