Hey everyone. After a loooong time of being too scared, on the 2nd of January I gave my parents the letter telling them I'm trans. And the next day, I told the rest of my family. I am now officially 100% out. I mean, my grandparents don't know, but I never see my granddad and my nan barely remembers my name as it is, so it isn't worth the hassle.

Anyway, I am really happy about it and proud of myself, so thought I'd share the news. I stopped coming onto the forum because I'd reached a point where I couldn't help others because I had no experience of being out, and others couldn't help me because I'd already had loads of advice. Now that I'm out, I'm happy to be back again

Better than a lot of parents, but worse than I expected. Basically, they told me they love me and always will and they don't care who or what I am, but they're not going to stop calling me by my birth name or female pronouns. The worst thing is they don't seem to have any intention of trying to ask questions or understand, so it's quite upsetting. But I need to give them time. It's my mum's birthday in a few days so I'm going to leave it for a while before I talk to them more in-depth. A few weeks, I guess.

But, you know, although their reaction isn't too great, I'm glad it's out there now and it's a huge weight lifted from me

Congratulations, Jason. Give them time to process what you told them. There's the saying that when one person transitions, so does the rest of the family.

Thanks all of you I will give them time, I'm just trying to stay upbeat in the meantime.
