Hey y'all, can we not have this argument here? Even if there ARE advantages to being female, they've never applied to me. And anyway, if they're taking the "perceived social advantage" thing out of the DSM, then maybe it doesn't matter anyway.

I'm very happy to give up this argument. I wasn't really arguing it.   Maybe it doesn't apply, because there could be other factors going on here. For instance, you could be "using" the idea of "being a female is a horrible thing", instead of really thinking if you are one or not. I'm not saying this as a bad thing, perhaps you never had an opportunity or perhaps you just haven't thought about it using that particular format. Perhaps you're even "protecting yourself" from the idea of not being a female, because you were punished from thinking this kind of thing as a child or young person. Perhaps the idea of being female is kind of alien to you. Okay just some things I'm throwing out here. There is NO hurry whatsoever to making to transition, if you even need to make a physical transition. NOt everyone really does.

Sorry, I'm done.  I would say that, if what you're experiencing is transgender-type-gender-dysphoria (it is gender dysphoria in the purest sense of the term, i.e. having trouble tolerating your own physical sex and social gender), then it's actually pretty normal to not be able to access any of the advantages of your assigned gender.  Things that cis or trans women identify as advantages to being female don't usually seem like advantages to people who don't really feel like women.  Like Jay said, sometimes "There's nothing good about being a woman," is just the most acceptable way a person can find to say "I want to be a man."

For me, part of wanting to distance myself from maleness was because how many men treat women.
