I am trying to see if I can remedy my bad credit, I owe alot of money. I'm going to see if I can get some help to cover SRS from my family the problem is they don't know I'm transing yet, or atleast I've not said anything. But I was asked "if I wanted to be a girl" and said nooo, ya I lied. I am FT so they must know, hopefully I can get some financial help from them even a loan but in there name. In Toronto we have clubs just for trans and queer community and so many support groups, so leaving would be hard but not impossible.

What's FT?

Fully transitioned?

Or perhaps fulltime?  Yeah, I also want to know... ???

I guess some people write it as F/T as opposed to P/T, "It's full time and part time" ;). I wish I could say I was fully transitioned but I know it takes a long time to get there and many Trans Girls never feel fully transitioned even after decades. I have a long way to go, the only thing that's holding me back is the money hence this post.

Well I have to say so far it looks like your doing excellent :D

You'll probably just have to keep doing school so you can get a better paying job, so it might take a little while, but for the time being I think you should be happy :)

I'm naive about loans, as I've never taken one except for cars and mortgage... so let me ask: will a bank normally give a loan for something like SRS? My credit is good, but we're paying off two cars and a mortgage right now. And they can't exactly repossess my surgery, lol...

I could do it through savings in a number of years, but I don't want to wait that long. I need... help ;)

I'm horrible with the whole loan idea thing too, I've always paid for everything in cash, including my cars.  But I don't have a house or mortgage so nothing there to worry about haha.  But you can always just ask for the loan from your bank and say like your going to pay off your car because they're giving you a better interest rate or something :P  If they're not the ones monitoring the loan for your car or something.

Again, I'm just speculating and I technically have no idea about loans haha.  Ahhhh, the unexperienced young.  But that's just my thought about an idea.

Right, that's just it: do banks typically demand to know - and be shown proof - of what you intend to spend the money on? Or is their decision simply based on your credit history and current debt?

Otherwise, as others mentioned, it's pretty much just like a car loan I guess...

I've been working minimum wage and going to school for a while.  Honestly, all I really have to worry about is staying afloat just enough to pay for my electrolysis and therapy, while getting decent grades.  I'm very lucky to be the oldest daughter of the most compassionate, liberal man of a compassionate, liberal family of San Francisco natives (who are also incredibly wealthy), so I've just always had the assurance that "things are taken care of" as long as I put out effort and get good marks in school.  When my dad died last month he left me a generous portion that's more than enough to pay for extensive FFS and the rest of my electro (you would be surprised how little it dulls the pain of losing him - which is not at all).

Now, if I were you, and I'm not, but if I was (and I could very easily not have been born into such fortunate circumstances, I was always prepared for the worst before I told my family), I would do everything in my power to restore my credit.  I would also be very attractive if I were you, so I'd get a clerical job.  Depending on where you live and how well you sell yourself, you can get anywhere from $14 to $20 an hour just doing secretarial work.  Then, I would TELL MY FAMILY.  Believe me, not telling your family as soon as you were aware of the issue not only discredits you and makes you seem like you don't trust them, but it just gives them less time to adjust and potentially become allies in your cause.

Tell them, and don't be afraid to ask for help.  Don't be afraid to cry.  Don't be afraid to be afraid.  Let them know just how much this means to you.  Appeal to their hearts, and then they'll be more willing to open their wallets.  Also, if they're having a hard time, take them to see your therapist with you.  As many times as they're willing and able (assuming you have a good therapist - I have a superb one, but that could just be my luck again.)

Hope this helps, lovely.

I actually have some loan papers from a little while back let me look at them and I'll see what it says on them.

Ummmm okay. . . here what it has to put it in the least complicated way:

name
work place
income
dependents
bank
credit union
history of money borrowing
insurances
assets
liabilities
recap of income and expenses
all other debts and previous creditors (ie child support unpaid taxes etc)

the type of loans they had listed for the one I was going to apply for was:
Personal, Family or Household or
Business or Investment in Real Estate Rentals for $:

then it says Specific purpose of loan:
Payable in:
Monthly Installments Beginning:

And the correct answer is, "medical expenses."

That's right as far as I understand it. You get a doctors note etc. stating surgery is nessesary and apply for a loan as a medical expense. I'm sure it can be done but I don't directly know anyone who has done it.
