So here's a think that was sparked of by one of Paris Lees' columns about Leelah Alcorn. Paris said she had been listening to Annie Lennox over the weekend because she was feeling down and Annie Lennox was what she listens to when she's down. It was what her Mother listened to. Me, when I am feeling maudlin, I will listen to Paul Simon, it is what my parents listened to.

What music do you listen to when you need an audio cuddle?

Rosie
Well that was fun! What's next?

I guess it depends on what type of insanity drove me down. Sometimes I would listen to Bizet, maybe some Brahms or Chopin. Other times, a bit of Coltraine or Parker. However, tonight I have mostly been listening to Slayer.

" Me, when I am feeling maudlin, I will listen to Paul Simon, it is what my parents listened to."

"Say, ain't we walking down the same street together
On the very same day?"

Graceland is my all time favourite.

For work, Autechre and Radiohead never let me down.

"Like I'm falling out of bed
From a long and weary dream
Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying"

Damara

Loreena McKennitt, probably.. her voice just connects with my core. It's cathartic to listen to her music and just cry.. either from the beauty or the sadness.

That's Karen Carpenter's voice for me. So yeah, I guess my audio cuddle is the Carpenters. :)

This, Yes!

For me it's all over the place. I love listening to anything that fits the mood, some that don't. I could be really depressed and the only thing that could cheer me up might be hardcore rap or heavy metal. If I'm sad maybe some classical music, or electronic stuff. If I'm in the mood to rock, than by god let those guitars scream and those drums bang. I do listen to depressing music if I'm down too. Sometimes you can feel the lyrics and they just describe what you feel. i'll just lay down and listen to it to get an understanding of what I feel. than it may be a song that I really like come on and I just can't so no. It really gets in a better mood.
Hi I'm Marty. I'm a MTF Transgender who wants nothing more than to finally let Samantha (Sammi) come out and play.

I listen to alot of VNV Nation, Illusion is an amazing song that I recommend everyone give a listen to.

If I am in the mood for higher/faster then I go with any EBM/House/Trance/Electronic

"Bonny Portmore" (theme song for Highlander 3) used to be one of my fav tracks :).
Now, when I feel dysphoric, it is either Mike Oldfield "To France" (sometimes Bonny Tyler "if You were a woman and I was a man", lol) or David Arkenstone "Le Mystère des Femmes"

For extra edge during workouts it is Scarface "Push it to the limit" or sometimes Terminator theme, lol.
When that extra edge is needed to get into specific mood for work or personal issues, it is Breaking Benjamin "Blow Me Away", All That Remains "Two weeks". Sometimes, to get more focused yet remain calm and gentle it is Frozen "Let it go" or Khumba "The real me".

I think that is quite an impressive array of music and covers a huge variety. No classical though, which suits me. I was forced to play cello for 8 years so find all classical music a bit intimidating.

Gracelands is a bit modern for me, especially when compared with the melancholy beauty of Old Friends or Night Game.

Yes! I don't usually stick to one particular artist, just whatever songs pop into my head but Illusion is always one of them.

I'm probably in the minority in this (no big suprise there) but when I'm down I allow myself to stay in it.  It is through doing this that I am able to ID the problem, then it falls into one of two catagories: something I can change or the opposite.  If it can be changed I change it, if not screw it, I realize why let something like that bother me.  My music remains unchanged.    Dani

When I'm feeling bad I listen to Pink Floyd and the OKcomputer album from Radiohead.
"What do you think science is? There's nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. Which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?" --Dr. Steven Novella
