Are there any places that care how the employees wear their hair?

I'm going to try goodwill, red robin, steak n shake, wendy's and just general cleaning jobs, I don't mind wearing a hairnet, but I hate having really short hair, so I'm not cutting it unless I absolutely have to, I wouldn't think many people would care about something so stupid, especially since I'm going to be applying for jobs like dishwasher at restaurants, but does anyone know if any of these places care?

Are there any places I should avoid when I go to apply for a job?

And please, don't tell me to "just cut it"

About 20 years ago, in the U.S., one of my friends who had very long hair, had his hair cut short before going to a job at federal government.

In the food services business, you will likely find that a hair net is required.   Elsewhere, not so much.

Barbie, a good friend of mine once wore a short hair wig to work at the Post Office, I haven't thought of that in years, thanks for the chuckle.  I work for the US federal government and I hope before I retire that my hair reaches my butt.

Yes. I know the people of the U.S. federal government are surprisingly conservative in dress and hair. The same is true here in my country.

Probably more strict here. I also once worked at a kind of federal government position here in my country about 9 years ago. I am quite sure that I was the only one biological male with shoulder-length hair among ca. a half million male government employees.

Currently I work and teach in a university here. People say that I am the only one person wearing miniskirt among both male and female faculty members not just in my university, but probably across all national universities here.

Well, you are doubtless prettier than most of the other faculty members too.  It brought back an image of my graduate school adviser from many years ago wearing leggings and a miniskirt (only in my imagination thank goodness)  the thought was to ridiculous as to be frightening.

Unless it is like some really stupid people in charge (i.e. don't take that job) or someplace where like there is a stupid image standard (i.e Law offices, military, some police) you probably just need to pull you hair back. At most restaurant, you have to pull your hair back and wear a hat or a hairnet, most retail jobs don't seem to care so long as it doesn't cover your face. When I drove a truck, the only image standard was no shorts or open toe shoes, anything goes otherwise.

Also since I had long hair before I transitioned, I will say I was only asked to cut my hair for one job, and I refused their job offer and that was selling cars at a Toyota dealership, and I guarantee that if I were to go to an interview there now, no one would even dream of mentioning cutting my hair, which really does prove to me that there is plenty of sexism to go around.

Yes. Some people say like that before I had a interview for getting job. I never changed my hair style or length for the interviews. One aged gentleman at the human resource department mentioned a kind of dress code for government employees. I asked him to show me that code in a document, and I promised that I will follow it. He went out to find it, but returned without any document. He said there is actually no regulation regarding hair length.

As I already had long hair during the interview, nobody objected to it after I worked there.

Well, Ilikeponies555, this is the Non-Binary section and you do not state your genetic gender. If you are genetically female I don't know of any business that has a problem with hair length. If you are genetically male, there is still some resistance out there, but the companies you mentioned shouldn't be a problem if you live in the United States. Some years ago the US government passed legislation that forces all companies doing business across state lines to not force discriminatory rules between how male and female employees. Simply stated, if a nationwide company in the US allows females to wear long hair, they have to allow males to as well.

I live in a major metropolitan area, though, and, while most men wear short hair anyway, few businesses seem to restrict hair length of male employees. I think about the only situations that might be an issue are things like sales situations that require formal dress and such.

Keep your hair neat, well cut and well groomed. One thing I learned from decades of being a long haired male is that people are more accepting of you when you look good-- long haired or not. Wear a nice long style even if it's a style normally worn by women. If you look really good, your probably be OK.
