I just lost my job and will not be able to make this months rent, with the loss of my job goes my health coverage, I will not be able to afford blood tests i need to get past to acquire hormones, uninsured is like 100 just to get in to the doc office. I have 1 week's worth left of E and a month maybe two of spiro. I have been on HRT for 3 years, this has all happened quite suddenly, I am 26.

I'm wondering what it is like going off HRT as this seems inevitable, I do not believe i am ready for the dysphoria throwback, any advice would be appreciated.

You don't say where you're from, but if you're from America you should file for unemployment as quickly as you can. That will help you thru some tough spots. I'm in the same boat, as I lost my job this past september and have been looking ever since.the job market where i'm now at is pretty tough. i've run out of some meds (not my hrt...that comes first) and have had to change endos...). It does get better and just hang in there the best that you can. It's all 'part of the deal' i just remind myself.

go to the unemployment office and see what they will do. try to find a social worker and get some ideas.

If you are within range of chicago there is the howard brown health center
they do transgender services and its where i have my appt. for feb. 9th
they accept cash patients which is what i am and from what i understand they
offer a sliding scale payment option, not real sure on that part though so you
would have to talk to them on that. their number is 773-296-8400

Faye, go check out your local unemployment center, even if your former employer blocks you from benefits, they can council you on your options.  I don't know what you may have in Illinois, but in California all former employees are eligible to pay to stay in the group health plan, commonly called COBRA.  If you can scrape the cash together, it may be less expensive than having to pay cash.

you'll get coverage on the 1st of March.

Use your previous pay stubs as proof of income and just wait it out till you get another job.

edit: the fact that you just lost coverage may be a qualifying event and they might let you get on coverage sooner... also, didn't Illinois expand Medicaid?

However you have to pay the full premium amount and not just the employee portion.

I know what its like to be without employment. You'll be working again soon and I hope its something you want and like.  I am not familiar with the Illinois area, but for the hormones you just require a prescription.  Ingles price for a one month supply (60 pills) is $6 for generic and the same goes for any other generics ($3 for 30).  To me, that's cheap and you can get the whole year's script all at once at $72. 

Also, you can sign up for marketplace insurance because I think you qualify due to your unemployment and its still not too late.  If Aetna is part of the marketplace network in Illinois, they are transgender knowledgeable when coding and processing claims.

I have a buddy who works for Blue Cross Blue Shield. He lives in rural southern Illinois.

They hire a lot, and if you'd like more information, he could probably help you get a job with them if it's something you're interested in.
